Of course, we have to mention Kisekae as an influence to creating Doujinshi. As pioneers in creating original character designs and merging them with fan-favorite series, their innovative style truly does create something new and unique for fans of the original series and Doujinshi alike. Most of all, I love how there are so many different voices in doujinshi. I really like doujinshi made by artist Aoi Nishimata. The colors he uses and the characters in his works are very nice. That work and that artist opened up the fan’s eyes to the huge world of other fan created content, showing that being a fan wasn’t just passive, but also active, creative and shared. Even a list of all the famous circles, the ones with the longest lines and the most imitated style, would never be enough to represent all the individual, deeply felt emotions of every fan, for each of them remembers the very first artist whose work they loved, and who made them believe in the power of doujinshi, work which they return to from time to time, still filled with the same magic of discovery that they felt back then, and which makes them feel part of a community.
