My top three right now would be 'Postcolonial Love Poem' by Natalie Diaz, 'The Tradition' by Jericho Brown, and 'Whereas' by Layli Long Soldier. Diaz's book is incendiary—it's about desire as a political, cultural, and bodily force. The love poems are landscapes of river and body, confronting colonization and celebrating queer, Indigenous love with a raw, muscular language. It completely reoriented how I think about contemporary love poetry.

Jericho Brown's 'The Tradition' uses his invented 'duplex' form to explore Black, queer love amid danger and tradition.
