19 Minutes Summary Novels & Stories

Jessica — First Person It was less than twelve hours to the Cannes Awards. Not that I was counting. Okay, fine—we were all counting. Liam had a whiteboard. Wilhelmina drew a ticking time bomb beside the number 12. And every hour that passed, they’d update the board and go, “Operation Vindication in T-minus—” “Eleven hours, thirty-seven minutes, and seventeen seconds,” Liam muttered like a tiny NASA technician, fiddling with his high-tech device.

I asked as I echoed my laughter across the room. Adrian's face fell and his eyes narrowed in confusion. "60 minutes make an hour," I said in an overly slow and deliberate voice. For the words were bitter vestiges of realization. The light had gone from Adrian's face and his dark eyes flashed anger, but I laughed once more, keeping my eyes fixed on his face. This touch could change the whole course of the story! As I asked the question, my voice had a touch of amusement and sarcasm. "Isn't it a summary," I asked, eyes fixed on Adrian as he shifted uncomfortably in his seat. There was a pause, his face twisted in thought, before he finally bit back with an answer.

“Our guys followed him. Ready?” “How long?” “Two minutes, maybe less.” The call ends. Everything tightens. It is time.

Not with what I was about to do. By nine forty-five, I had reviewed every critical document on the drive. I'd taken notes. I'd flagged the files I would need for the meeting. I'd called my legal team and given them a fifteen-minute summary that had produced a silence on the other end so profound I'd had to check the call was still connected.

I read for seven minutes. Not everything. The first five headlines and the opening paragraphs of the two pieces that were doing the fullest account of the previous evening. The rest I would read later, or Marcus would summarize, or Victoria would flag the legally significant elements in her morning briefing. Seven minutes was sufficient to understand the shape of what had happened overnight while I was sleeping. The shape was complete.

“Ok. Here’s the deal, Mama. You have thirty minutes to put all of my DVDs in their respective cases and place them back on the shelf in alphabetical order, or you can march your happy little ass back across the street without this dick.” “But that’s not fair!” she shrieked. “I can’t possibly get this done in thirty minutes! It took an entire hour just to fuck it up!” “Your thirty minutes start now,” I grinned as she gaped back at me in horror. “You only have 29 minutes and 54 seconds left. I suggest you get a move on.”

“Summarize this. You’ve got half an hour.” My mind raced as I flipped through the pages. Numbers, charts, and words seemed to dance before my eyes. I scribbled down notes, my hand cramping up. Time was slipping away, and I could feel his gaze burning into my back. “Time’s up,” he announced, and I handed him my summary, trying to keep my hand from shaking. He read it, his face giving nothing away. Then, out of nowhere, he said, “Something is wrong, can you explain your CV?

Daniel placed a calming hand against her arm. She looked at him. "I'm trying." "I know." "But I'm seriously trying not to lose my mind right now." Daniel almost smiled. "I can see that." A tiny laugh escaped her. Then it disappeared. The reality returned. Ava looked at Seraphina. "Tell me everything." The woman studied her. "Everything?" "Yes." "That could take days." "We have fifty-eight minutes." Adrian glanced at the countdown. "Fifty-eight minutes and twelve seconds, actually." Aria turned toward him.

"I will go over the briefing thrice. If there's anything you don't understand, ask me. We cannot afford any mistakes." I laid out a map of the town hall on the table, one that I had drawn from memory after my previous visit there. Pointing to various locations, I explained, "This is our plan for saving the people." After an eight-minute briefing, I sought confirmation. "Does everyone understand?" They responded in unison, affirming their comprehension. "Good. Now, synchronize your watches. We need perfect timing. Prepare yourselves; we have only 5 minutes before we proceed. Report any last-minute issues immediately."
