Juniper nodded her head after hearing Selena’s suggestion. The story was called ‘Me and My Dad’, and it was written in three installments that were split into three books. The plot revolved around a little dinosaur by the name of Rory and his father. In fact, these storybooks were a gift from her colleague who didn’t know that Selena was a single mother. Thus, she had never chosen them to read for Juniper because she was afraid that the child would ask difficult questions, which she might not know how to answer.

I wandered through the aisles, running my fingers along the spines, feeling a sense of belonging I hadn't felt in a long time. I spent the whole day there, completely lost among the books, reading story after story until I lost track of time. One book caught my attention "The Adventures of Sir Flufftail" a ridiculous but absolutely hilarious story about a brave and very dramatic rabbit knight who went on quests to save stolen carrot cakes from mischievous squirrels.

I tell myself to be normal for five minutes, to just be a person who buys tea and listens to people read, and not someone who survived a marriage contract, a diagnosis, and a city’s gossip machine with my name in its mouth. It's downtown and it's small. The kind of bookstore that stacks chairs between tall shelves and has a crooked stage made out of two platforms pushed together. There are string lights and a chalkboard that says OPEN MIC — 7PM — 5 MINUTES EACH — BE GENTLE. Someone’s kid is playing with a paper crane by the poetry section, and the woman at the counter is making a big deal out of steaming milk for a stranger because she wants the foam to look like a heart.

“Mother!” __________________________________________________________ I have spent over seven months into this story and sometimes it gets exhausting. Even so I am very determined to finish this book and not rush to the ending. So I ended up working on a mini project on the side. But don't worry the updates of this book will be consistent. Ten minutes. “Oh, but an hour really is a long time to do all those questions.” Not at all, it was actually very short, but I was hoping maybe he didn’t know that “You don't have to rush. Instead, you could just maybe do the first page, then we can take a break. Maybe. If you want. We could—"

It was one of the twins. I stood up and opened the door before I saw Becca holding a book and Ruth carrying Everest. “How can I help you girls?” I asked. Becca raised the book; it was a children’s book ‘All Alien needs is a friend’ by Mitsuki Bethan. I smiled as I took the book and stared down at the girls. “Mummy won’t be doing story time soon.” Ruth explained. “Come in. Just give me a moment to shower and change.” I said as they walked in.

I’d have gladly walked into its yawning gullet at that moment. “It’s a very interesting book, Doon,” continued Maurice. “It’s the story of Muad’Dib, the mouse that hides from the sun and travels in the cool night.” “Sounds a bit boring,” said Flossie. “Do you think we could delay this week’s Book Club until we get out of this mess?” I requested in my most reasonable voice.
