I only ever wanted Jennifer! He got in his car and drove off, tires screeching. Lydia's face went pale. She hadn't expected that reaction at all. "Mom..." Mrs. McKinzie's expression curdled. "Shut your mouth. I've given you chance after chance, and you still can't win him over? Useless." Lydia stammered, trying to defend herself, but the older woman cut her off. "Save it. I'm giving you one more opportunity. If you still can't close the deal, believe me—there are plenty of other women who'd love to be Harvey's wife."

Maya said gently, her hand on his arm. He wrenched away from her, moving back to Helena’s bedside. He took her hand in his. “Helena,” he said, his voice breaking. “Helena, please.” I couldn’t watch. I turned away, pressing a fist to my mouth to hold back the scream building in my throat. My sister was dead. My beautiful sister was gone. And the last thing—the very last thing… anyone would have thought would happen. A harsh sob tore from Hunter’s throat, the sound so raw… it hurt to hear.

I shouted, "Jessica, I'm still your sister!" Jessica growled, "What kind of bullcrap sister? I've always been prettier and luckier than you. This countdown is what keeps me going every day. It’s going so well but as I sit there looking forward, I see several shadows fall in front of me. Talk about awkward. “Hi!” my youngest sister exclaims, jumping up from her seat, blue eyes laser-focused on Quinn. My other two sisters spring up, too, looking to Quinn with interest, and all three of them rush over to where we’re standing in the foyer. “This is Quinn,” I say as they approach eagerly. “She’s not my girlfriend. Don’t make it weird.” I turn to Quinn, an amused smile tugging at her lips. “These are my sisters, Juliet, Jenna and Jade,” I say, pointing to each one. “Mom clearly had a thing for J names.”

I started, my voice loud enough for everyone pause and look at me confused. Before I could utter another word, Calanthe beat me to it. “My sister, Naidira and I would like to inform everyone of something important.” Alpha Orion looked confused. Just like everyone else. “What's going on?” I raised a brow, chest heaving silently. What did she want to say? Her fingers dropped to her stomach and her next words were soft. “I'm with child for the Alpha.” My blood ran dry as gasps and murmurs rippled through the crowd.

As he returned to work, I brought him a glass of water, when he just happened to reach out. We touched each other, but he withdrew his hand first and pretended like nothing happened. "Your sister won't survive." There was no doubt about it—anyone who could be objective would be able to see that there was no hope for my sister. Even with that mysterious spell that kept her alive despite losing almost all of her blood, it was just pointless. Two weeks later, the cops found her dried-up corpse in the middle of the street, every last drop of fluid drained out of her body.

“You’re working even at your sister’s party.” “I’m a programmer. I don’t actually live,” I answered flatly. In the center of the ballroom, Fiona looked like an ad for happiness. Her dress was ivory, not a wedding gown but definitely enough to make it clear she was in the phase of not caring who was jealous. She laughed brightly, hugged aunts, greeted guests, and every now and then waved at me from across the room like, look at me, sis, I’m happy. And I lifted my hand and waved back with a thin smile.

Tears rush down Ann's face as she stares at me. I look around as I slowly walk to my both sisters. I see a moon mark glowing on Sarah's neck and my heart stops. I grit my teeth, clenching my fists. “Brother, the curse has consumed our sister!!” Ann says. “She is the thirtieth person..” Elder Philip blurts out. Ann exhales, “Oh no!!” My heart begins to beat fast. I step ahead to my seat, avoiding any show of fear. Everyone in the room already knows what this means.
