I push inside and start searching. Nightstand first. Nothing but lip balm and an old phone charger. Under the mattress. Empty. Closet. Just clothes. I drop to my knees, check under the bed. Dust. Then I see the wooden crate in the corner. The books Madeline sent. They’re stacked neat except one that’s tilted sideways, like someone dropped it in a hurry. I crawl over, pull the tilted book out. Old leather cover. No title. I flip it open. Halfway in, big black letters jump out.

"Oh, so you just can't make it without the Swains? You've got two hands and two feet. What's stopping you from getting a job and taking care of yourself instead of showing up here to whine? "This whole act is just your way of sneaking back into Mom and Dad's good books through me. Don't pretend you actually feel bad. You don't." Jillian's face turned ghostly white. She clearly wasn't ready for me to call her out like that. Her mouth opened, but nothing came out. I shoved past the three of them, rushed out of the airport, and hopped into a cab headed for the university.

I close my eyes, jump backward, and fall off the side of our city in the sky, Caelum. The air drags me through an abyss of grey. I close my eyes, a tear ripped from my face by whipping wind. I can never go home again. Spreading my wings open with a snap, I let the wind catch me as I break free of the clouds. The vast, dark expanse of the desert below sprawls endlessly before me. It takes only minutes before my feet touch the sand, wind chilling my toes through my sandals. It really wasn’t that long a fall at all.

It's a hardbound book with a coat and its title is gold. I opened it and raised my eyebrows because what was written there was typed. That means this book is from outside of Wysteria.

She tested her arms and legs, twisted her neck, tested her body…. She felt different, that was for sure. She was not herself anymore. She felt unlimited strength coursing through her. A desire to run, to sprint, to break through walls, to leap into the air. She also felt something else: two slight bulges on her back, behind her shoulder blades. Very subtle, but she knew they were there. Wings. She knew, she felt, that if she wanted to fly, they would open up for her.

And he could very well end up the only brother regretting it. Which was as it should be. He was the third born. Even with their father having taken pains to hide the order of their births, Griogair was third born and he knew it. They had read as much in their mother’s diary. Paddy had been born first, then Diar and Gair had been last. The heir, the spare, and the excess. Leftovers were the place of the third-born male. Only their father hadn’t seen that.

“West wing. Third floor. Section twelve. Look for the silver spine editions, Old World Ritual Compacts and Divine Bonding Theories.” Auren bowed slightly in thanks, turned, and padded away like some kind of sexy, barefoot academic god. The man moved like gravity didn’t fully apply to him. His wings were still out, tucked in loosely but massive and gorgeous, brushing bookshelves as he passed. Riven muttered under his breath, “Damn showoff,” but grinned like he meant the opposite. Kael just shook his head. “We’re in a throuple with a literal angel. What even is our life?”
