His performance adds a layer of menace and melancholy that pure plot speed can't match. For me, a great thriller audiobook isn't just about words-per-minute; it's about the narrator embodying the story's nerve.

What pulls me through a book in one sitting is usually relentless forward motion. I recently read 'The Silent Patient' and couldn't put it down not because the prose was beautiful, but because every chapter ended on a question, a revelation, or a shift that demanded the next page. The pacing felt like running downhill—you just have to keep going.

For a pure action thrill, Matthew Reilly's 'Scarecrow' series is basically a series of set pieces strung together with jet fuel. Character depth? Minimal. Subtlety? None. But if you want a book that feels like a summer blockbuster from page one, that's the ticket. Sometimes you just need a narrative that refuses to let you breathe.

It's interesting how 'fast-paced' can mean different things; a thriller's breakneck plot versus a romance with constant, crackling tension. I get bored if a story lingers too long without a clear direction.
