Si Alexandra Jane Diaz ay isang book illustrator na simple at ordinaryong namumuhay araw-araw kasama ang aso niyang St. Bernard na ang pangalan ay Smarty. Nang isang araw ay sadyang pagkainteresan siya ng isang kapritsusong estranghero at basta na lang alukin ng kasal. Ang pangalan nito ay Daniel. Si Daniel St. Claire ay isang tahimik subalit magaling na negosyante. Isa siyang uri ng lalaki na maraming baliw na ideya at mas nanaising manahimik kaysa magsalita pero magaling magpatsutsada o mangulit. Mahal niya ang kababata niyang kaibigan na si Sarah. Si Sarah Geneva Kale ay isang magandang babae na nagmamay-ari ng isang makulay na flower shop. Hindi niya alam na ang batang lalaki na nagustuhan niya ng bata pa siya ay mahal pa rin siya hanggang ngayon hanggang sa napagpasiyahan nito na magpakasal sa isang babaeng hindi niya kilala kaysa sa kanya. Before the contract was even signed, the client's representative casually said he was craving pancakes with maple syrup. I didn't hesitate. I stood there, my throat tight, trying not to fall apart. Nigel squeezed my shoulder, his voice soft as he said, "It was just bad luck. Don't beat yourself up." I nodded weakly, drained of energy. But the second I stepped away, I heard him laughing in the break room with his friend. "That guy's seriously allergic to mango. Good thing I added mango syrup to the pancakes. Olivia's about to score a huge year-end bonus. Enough for a down payment on her new apartment." His friend hesitated. "Melissa hasn't slept in a month over that deal. She was working while she was sick. She needed that money for her mom's surgery—" Nigel waved him off, already annoyed. "She has me. Isn't that enough? Olivia earned this." My hands curled into fists so tightly that my nails dug into my palms. Bad luck? Yeah, right. Nigel had planned every second of it. And now, he thought he could smooth it over by marrying me someday, toss me a few cheap words, and I would just swallow it. I was done with that disgusting man.

A security guard caught a snake in our apartment complex and delivered it straight to my door. I was just about to scream when floating comments cut in. [The male lead got dumped and turned back into his real form just to spy on his girlfriend, and he actually got caught? This is funny as hell!] [He got dumped, and his girlfriend hates him. He's probably gonna cry himself to sleep!] [Aww, poor little snake can't curl up on his girlfriend tonight.] The big black snake looked pitiful in the guard's hands. It secretly sized me up with its slit pupils. I tried holding out my hand, and the black snake stared in disbelief. Two seconds later, it obediently rubbed its head against my fingers.

Aliza's Point of View "Let me go," I said as I tried to get away from him, but I couldn't because he was too strong. Catherine walked over to me with an evil smile on her face. "Why," I asked, needing to know why she would betray me the way she did. "Why would you do this to me, to my father? How could you betray us like this? My father is your mate, and you did this. You acted like you loved me, like I was your daughter, but you lied. Why?" I asked, and she laughed. "You are dumb, just like your father was. I never loved you. I did all of this to get what I wanted. I never cared about you or your father. You two were just too stupid to notice how much I hated you both," Catherine said "You are evil. How could you say you never cared about my father? He is your destined mate," I said, and she laughed. "No, he isn't," Catherine said, which shocked me. Her claws started to extend, and she pushed them through my chest and pulled out my heart. I fell to the ground, and all I saw was blackness.
