🫠Overdue and Overwhelmed 🫠 Thompson’s POV “Mr. Thompson, this is the third time this month you’ve returned books late.” I froze halfway through the quiet university library at 10:47 PM. Jolene Adam stood behind the main desk, arms crossed under her full breasts, looking at me over the rim of her black-framed glasses. The head librarian was the definition of sexy and strict. She was in her mid-thirties, wearing a tight pencil skirt and crisp white blouse that struggled to contain her chest, and dark hair pinned up with a few rebellious strands falling around her face.

There was no one in it. I walked the shelves. PACK LAW. CONTINENTAL CODES. FOUNDER-LINE PROVISIONS. I pulled down a thin grey volume titled The Hierarchies and Rights of the True Alpha: A Reading. I carried it to the long oak table at the centre. I sat down. I opened it. I had been reading for forty minutes when the library doors opened. I did not look up at once.

Some saluted them as the pursuit of knowledge has no equal. William was impressed by how that worked out; he began to love her more for her ingenuity and bravery. The halls of the library are lined with columns, reminiscent of tree trunks, filled with books. Hills of tomes, sonnets, poems, and records piled neatly in orderly fashion. Columns are painted with a color, signifying their degree of importance to the work of literature, art, or knowledge. The columns nearest to the entrance are decorated with gold. Halfway is with silver, and finally, the most inner portion is with bronze. And the Restricted Section is brimming with books untouched for years, dimly glittering in the veil of darkne

There was also a ladder leaned against one of the furthest walls to allow access to even the highest shelves of the library. The floors were cherry oak hardwood with a cra**ling fireplace in it in a warm mocha colour and the lightning was a bit dim, the type of lightning you would expect from an assortment of candles and not electricity. I also noticed in the far end of the library there was a large table with four big chairs all around it, looking excellent to do homework on.

I imagined. The library had tall floor-to-ceiling shelves, with long windows that had draped curtains over them. Above was a bright overhead chandelier light. There were red soft plush couches at different corners of the room. I looked to my right at the far end of the room. There was a big mahogany desk with a recliner. Though the table was empty, on it stood a desk lamp, notepads, and a pen holder for jotting. Behind it on the wall was a beautiful wallpaper with bold imprinted letters on it - READING IS LIFE. This was heaven basically. What else would appease me other than these books?

They landed with a loud thud. Once inside the library, Kyle sensed that the building wasn’t fully empty. The handy map at the entrance had informed him that students had twenty-four-hour access with a swipe card. Kyle thought it was likely that he would come across a few hunched figures, furiously scribbling dissertations as if their lives depended on it, and that he would end their lives if the urge took him. But before that, he needed to get to the top floor where some of the faculty offices were located, including Aidan’s. Some instinct told him that the professor would be hard at work, oblivious to the time of night it was.

“I called them last night.” Crown beamed. “Thank God! I’ve been waiting to learn again!” Ceynol chuckled. “There’s a library on the top floor. Want to see it after breakfast?” Crown’s eyes lit up. “For real?!” But before he could run off, Jade stopped him with a stern look. “Finish your food first, or no library.” The boy obeyed immediately, eating with newfound enthusiasm. Ceynol smirked. “You must’ve craved books while you were pregnant.”

Dim, golden light illuminates narrow aisles, casting long shadows that twist and shift with each step. The library is silent, save for the soft rustle of turning pages and the occasional squeak of a trolley wheel as librarians glide between shelves like wraiths. Their movements are unnervingly silent, their faces impassive as they climb ladders to retrieve books or vanish into shadowy alcoves. The atmosphere presses down on me, a solemn reminder of the knowledge stored here and the secrets it might hold.

Going to the section located at the far-end corner of the library, Audrey soon arrived at the section where the school records were being kept. It looks exactly just like how it looked before when they first came to this part of the library. This section still looks desolated and abandoned as ever. Thick dust still cloaked the covers of the books that were left unattended in the bookshelves. Although it was still daytime right now, there is barely any sunlight coming on this part of the library. As a matter of fact, if not because of the artificial light coming from crystal pearls that illuminated the area, the place will be dark.
