James White Library Novels & Stories

I expected it to dark and damp like in horror movies but since it's James's room, it is so pristine. There's only one window that shows a view of the backyard, the window is wide and has a net which James installed himself. The walls are painted white with little drawings on them and the ceiling is sky blue. There's a bed pushed to the wall, a standing fan at one corner, study table with a mountain of books and an array of stationary. He even has a mini fridge and an inbuilt wardrobe. His laptop is on the corner of his bed charging. And a small TV is perched on the wall.

Chapter 130: James stretched and yawned as he sauntered into the warehouse. Another day, another challenge. Two weeks since they'd taken down the Shadow Council, and there was still so much to do. "Morning, everyone," he called out. Hawk barely looked up from her computer. "Hey, James." Angie waved him on from where she was sorting through a stack of papers. Kelvin nodded, phone pressed to his ear. "What d'you make of it all?" James reached out for a cup of coffee, then dropped into the chair to the right of Hawk.

-At location- Eva and Iris led James into a small alley away from the crowds. After they entered a bookstore, James was waiting outside. But because the two of them took too long, he finally caught up and went inside. "Welcome, James." Eva hissed in an angry tone of voice.

“And I saw your crush all over you the entire time.” “Come on, James. It’s not like that,” I protested, cheeks burning again. He chuckled. “Relax. I’m just messing with you.” I turned to John. “So, how’s life in the Iron Pack?” “Boring,” he answered, pushing up his spectacles. “Except the library. That place is massive compared to ours.” I wasn’t surprised. John rarely found joy in anything outside his books. “What about you, James?” I turned to him. “I’m sure you’re really enjoying it.”

Maybe his own thinking was just too conservative. With this in mind, James searched online for answers to many related questions. He came across a term repeatedly mentioned online: "BL literature." He decided to explore it and instantly discovered a whole new world. He thought to himself, if it's called "literature," it must have some depth to it, right? Maybe if he learned more about it, he could come to accept it more easily. However... The covers of these books seemed a bit too frivolous, reminiscent of the comics Diana had shared before, which struck him as oddly similar.

Throwing on a shirt and jeans, I slipped out of the room and made my way downstairs. The locals had pointed out a small library in town, and I figured it was worth checking out. If there was anything recorded about past vampire attacks or the use of white oak, this would be the place to find it. The library was quiet when I arrived, the scent of old books and polished wood filling the air. Rows upon rows of shelves lined the space, and only a few people were inside, hunched over desks, reading. I made my way to the back, scanning the spines of books for anything useful.

James raised his head to look at me in the mirror as he replied, “We are neighbours. She would have come herself, but she had to go to the library.” “Ariadna hates reading books. Why in the world would she go to a library?” The man’s face flushed, but his voice remained calm. “She went to the library to pick some books for me.” I crossed my arms over my chest and narrowed my eyes. “So, she went to the library on your behalf and send you to pick me up. It doesn’t make any sense at all.” Catching a glimpse of a petrol pump at 100 meters, I added in a firm voice, “Stop the car, James.”

I’d be fine. I could bet on Albert that not a single soul would step foot into the library on a Friday afternoon, hardly any even do on exam periods. Mr. James was not at his desk and I guess he wasn’t because he had left for the teachers’ lounge to steal a few ice cream bowls like he normally did. I’d make him lend me extra textbooks so that his ice cream thieving secret, remains a secret. ‘Blackmail.’ ‘Isn’t blackmail too strong a word, Al?’

"Do you ever get lost?" "Sometimes," Grandma winked at him. "That's what makes it fun." James, my quiet boy, was last. He looked up at Grandma with those serious eyes of his. "Do you have any books?" Grandma's face softened even more. "My dear boy, we have an entire library. Walls and walls of books, just waiting to be read." James looked like he might faint from happiness. He grabbed my hand. "Mom! A real library! Can we go see it now? Please?"

I replied, scrambling to come up with a lie that didn’t involve Enzo and Lisa, “I just… had a fight with my roommate, so I don’t really feel like being there. That’s all.” James smirked. Part of me worried that he was going to invite me over to his place or something, which would only add to the confusion of everything going on; but his next words took me by surprise. “So, let’s stay, then,” he whispered, leaning across the table. I cocked my head. “But the library is closing.” “So?” James said, his eyes suddenly mischievous. “C’mon. Follow me.” The librarian announced that the library was closing again.
