“Threatening a police officer is a felony.”
He laughed again, softer this time.
“Is this a threat?” he asked. “Or just… advice.”
Rowan took one step closer—not into danger, but into control.
“If you have something to say,” she replied calmly, “say it clearly.”
The man paused.
Then, deliberate as a knife sliding from a sheath, he said, “You should’ve let the story die.”
Rowan’s breath stayed even.
“You should’ve,” he continued, “stayed suspended. Stayed quiet. Let the Cross family bury it like they bury everything.”
