I had just been discharged from the hospital when I got a message about a team dinner. My manager, Robert Spradlin, had specifically emphasized that attendance wasn't optional. When I arrived at the private room at the restaurant, I froze at the sight of the table full of spicy dishes, taken aback. Clutching my stomach, I tried to keep my tone calm. "Not many people in our department can handle spicy food, right?" Kristie Madison, busy taking selfies on her phone, rolled her eyes at my comment. "This is a celebration dinner. It's supposed to be bold and fiery for good luck."

“You don’t eat chilli. Unless you want to spend the rest of the day completely miserable.” Victor set the bottle down slowly. He looked at her. She had already turned back to her plate, cutting Daniel’s toast into the triangles he apparently preferred, completely unbothered by what she’d just revealed. “Mum.” Daniel looked up, genuinely curious. “How do you know he doesn’t like chilli?” The kitchen went very quiet. Elara’s knife stilled for just a fraction of a second. Then she set it down, picked up her fork, and opened her mouth and closed it again.

I felt the warmth of a lone tear escape my eye and leaving its trail all the way to my hairline as my eyes wavered and my eyelids closed when the last breath left my mouth. She could rot in there till her savior arrived. “I will now serve,” the maid announced. “Shut up and do it,” I sneered. I could really use the silence. With knitted gloves on, she started to table the food. I eyed her, all these clothes over the little change in the weather. She served the soup and waited in the corner while I prepared to eat. My stomach growled at the sight of the food, but in a rather negative way. I braced up and took a bite of the soup. I scrunched my face and turned to the shivering maid, “Why is it so cold?”

"What's the problem? It's the restaurant, the food there is good. Izzy turned her face away with a small smile on her lips before taking two plates covered in plastic wrap out of the bag. "I know it is, but it's my quail with lavender sauce we're talking about," she assured him. The dish was perfectly assembled, showing once again all her skill in the kitchen. I ran my hand down her legs again, climbing the fabric of her dress to reach her skin only to feel how cold she still was. "You need to warm up, I'll get a blanket from the bedroom and we can eat by the fire "I walked away.

I complained. "Would you prefer me being here instead? I mean, it'll be massively awesome," Axel said, moving closer by the minute. I was about to say something when Dylan cleared his throat audibly. "The food is getting cold," he informed us, staring at Axel. "They are fruits and yogurt, Dylan. They are supposed to be cold," Axel replied, staring back at him. "Well, someone has to eat while they are still fresh." Dylan gawped, almost gritting his teeth.

I had my shower, got dressed and took out my best novel. ‘Finding Damon’ It was a high school romance novel about supernaturals who fell in love but their differences set them on a path of deadly choices. I was down ten pages when dinner came in, It was a lady dressed in blue and white who brought the tray to my door. She looked so familiar, like one of my highschool seniors then, “Thank you,” I said, taking the tray from her. I munched down the food, finished it in less than five minutes and placed the tray back on the counter. When I went back to bed, the soft wind of the night blew over my face, sending me into a deep sleep unexpectedly.

It was summer at this moment, and the first few dishes served were cold dishes, accompanied by a refreshing dessert. The cube-shaped toast was cut into small pieces and had ice cream scoops on top, mixed with butter and honey. It was a must-order dish for Janice every time she dined in this place. However, she was not in good health at the moment, so it was not advisable to eat cold food. Janice thus moved the dessert toward Catelyn and said, "I like this very much, Kitty. Try it." "She can't eat it," said Cedrick before Catelyn could even open her mouth to speak.

A disgusted look forms on my face d I look at the cold food in front of me. “What's this?” I ask, shocked as I avert my gaze from the tray of food to the man. There's a wicked smirk perched at the side of his lips. He looks like he juts accomplished a very important mission. “Food.” “But they just brought in fresh food. Why did you keep aside and serve me this one which was brought in last night?” “Because that's what suits you. Cold, stale food. Murderous like you don't deserve to eat like the rest of us.”
