A Flicker In The Dark Novels & Stories

Chapter 1: Dysfunctional family. The darkness is nothing more than a test that God gives us, many times to overcome things and learn from it, but in the end we all carry that darkness in our hearts, we just have to decide whether to expel it or let it dwell within you. Charlotte is a girl who has been in the dark since she was born, her parents were shitty to her, she was beaten and mistreated unjustifiably simply because her parents wanted it that way, but to understand a little of this story we must return to the past.

Let the idea root. Then something shifted. Cold. Ancient. It brushed across my senses. Not the warm thread tying me to Kael. Something older. Higher. I lifted my eyes. Daylight stretched wide and clear. And yet... The Moon hung there. Visible. Pale. Wrong. A murmur spread. “That… should not be possible.” The light dimmed, not like a cloud passing… …but like something enormous blinked. Once. Twice. The Moon flickered. Every wolf felt it.

I have watched the light in you begin to flicker. It started on your thirtieth birthday. You didn't run as hard. You stumbled on the third step, catching yourself with a hand that felt brittle. The light of the house seemed dimmer that night, or perhaps it was just your eyes, clouded by the whiskey and the crushing weight of everything you hadn't accomplished. I surged forward. My fingers—long, ink-black claws—grazed the back of your neck. You didn't turn, but you gasped, a sound of genuine, existential dread. You knew, didn't you? Somewhere deep in the lizard brain, you knew that the darkness wasn't chasing you anymore. It was catching up.

Unsettling. Like someone was watching her. Her steps slowed. Her fingers curled slightly at her side. Don’t panic. She glanced around casually. No one close. No one staring. But the feeling didn’t leave. Her heart started to beat faster. She turned toward the exit. Time to go. Now. She walked faster this time, her calm slipping just slightly. The door was only a few steps away. Just a few more— The lights flickered. Her breath caught. Then everything went dark.

The seal-like mark on her palm was still faintly glowing. FLICKER! Suddenly, the lights in the room began to flicker again. It was terrifying for those in the room, especially the fish tanks containing the grotesque half-human, half-aquatic test subjects. The sight was always revolting. The temperature started to drop, and they began to shiver. The shadows of the strange creatures became more distorted and terrifying in this situation. FLICKER! BANG! All the lights went out. The room was so dark they couldn't see anything. Then, a large gust of wind seemed to sweep past them, making them stagger.

My eyelids fluttered. And then.. Darkness.

Sure enough, it was gone. The image of him smiling at the clerk came to mind, along with the warm compliments about what a loving couple we were. That scene kept replaying in my head. I stood there in a daze, the bitterness in my chest slowly settling. I quietly told myself that maybe this was all just a one-sided crush on Serena's end. After dinner, Lucas suddenly set down his fork and said, "I have to work late tonight at the observatory. I need to observe a star that's quite rare."

She wrote me back and said it would be closer to 10 that she would get there, so I just needed to be patient for another 20 minutes. I took off my clothes and left them all right in one spot, so it would be easy to find them later. I went ahead and turned the lights off, getting used to the dark. I was lost in my thoughts when I heard the click in the door. My heart immediately started racing and I thought I was going to jump out of my skin. “Hey Eve, you found me,” I said, calm and even trying not to sound too antsy. “I guess so,” I heard her beautiful voice in the dark.

When Emily opened her eyes she saw everything was dark. A small dirty room, the window is pinned closed and there is only a small source of light through the door cracks. The pungent smell of this room makes her nauseous. She tried to recalled what happened earlier? When she is talking to Ryan she saw someone bumped into her car. She halted and go out of the car to check on that lady if she is fine or not but before she asks anything from that lady someone hits her head which makes her lose her consciousness then she didn't know what happened afterwards. She still tried to recall the person who suddenly jumped in front of her and what happened afterwards but she couldn't remember anything. E
