Even though I've always known what's going on in there. I stand in front of the small house. ‭My house. ‬Our family had a large house. One that may belong to a ‭Millionaire‬. We ‭were‬ millionaires. I frown. ‭That ended long ago.‬ Everything was perfect until my mother's death. I got a few thousand. Unfortunately, I can't access it till I turn eighteen, which shouldn't be long as I'm past seventeen at present. Most of the funds went to charities. And another larger share, of course, went to father. He eventually blew all his money doing drugs and alcohol. At that time, we could not afford the bills for the house anymore. This is how we ended up in this small house in a bad neighborhood.

Melanie gathered her thoughts and raised her paddle, "Five million five hundred thousand!" As soon as she lowered her paddle, the man beside her raised his again, "Five million six hundred thousand!" Melanie held her breath, turning to look at the man. He was smiling at her.

' Her thoughts were disrupted when Aaron's voice slides through the noise in the room and he announced, "A hundred and fifty million!" In a matter of seconds, the entire room fell quiet.

“Uh, sure.” He leads me to the master bedroom upstairs. The penthouse is actually pretty grand. A house like this in SoHo has to go for at least 4 million dollars. I could get used to being invited to parties like this. The room has an en suite bathroom, of course. The wall-length windows show one of the best views of the city, casting a deep glow onto the expensive carpet and furniture. I like the neutral theme of the room—a sharp difference from my teal, 2014-esque room. “So, this is where I sleep,” he shrugs.

She was staring at the screen, her brows furrowed in concentration. “No,” she murmured. “That’s not a distortion.” Luna glanced at her, uneasy. “You’re acting weird.” Ava didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she leaned back, chewing her lip. Then, finally, she looked at Luna. “You know my grandmother, right?” Luna blinked. “The one who reads fortunes and talks to spirits?” Ava nodded. “She’s more than that. She’s... connected. She can see things that others can’t.”

That was one scary conversation. “Okay, now I have some work to do from home. Bye-bye, will be in my room.” And you both can be as mushy as you want without me feeling sad for myself. I sat in my room, thinking of how I can earn one million easily but who am I joking with. It’s not some thousands but million. A million has six zeroes and my salary for one year has five zeroes only, though it works fine for me. I have nice savings too. Well, New York is a place to live easily. Too cold, too hot and too comfortable at times.

If anything, some of them leaned forward with more interest, like this was entertainment. Tears burned my eyes as my breathing became uneven. My mind scrambled, trying to make sense of everything. This wasn’t a nightmare. This was real. “One million.” The number hit me hard. My stomach twisted. “How can people be like this…” I whispered. I looked around desperately, hoping someone would stop this. Anyone at all. Then I saw him. The same old man. His hand slowly lifted. My chest tightened in fear. “One million, five hundred thousand,” he said casually.

charade blows up in my face. “You moved fifty million dollars because you’re scared?” he interrupted, voice rising slightly. “That’s your answer?” he added with a mocking scoff. He leaned forward, voice quieter now, but far more dangerous, almost like we had switched places for a second, my voice was getting increasingly louder.

“Hah-hah-hah-hah, 1 million dollars? Oh Zayn, you’re such a stingy man!” However, before Dagon’s voice died away, Zayn added, “One hundred and fifty million dollars.” The smile on Dagon’s face froze immediately.
