I lean closer to the glass. "But you are mine first." I turn off the light. The darkness swallows the room. The question hangs in the silence, heavy and terrifying. Monster or Mother? I open the door. I step out into the apartment. Act Two is over. Act Three begins now. And in Act Three, the Queen doesn't just rule. She kills.

I want the first take raw. Thomas glanced at Helena briefly. Helena looked at Elena. Okay. Helena said. They took their positions. The crew settled. The room went quiet in the particular way it went quiet when everyone in it understood that something significant was about to happen. Elena said action. The scene ran for four minutes and twelve seconds.

“Start.” Blondie puts two fingers in his mouth to let out a whistle of support, Miss Jota’s stern gaze lands on him. “Quiet.” He offers a sheepish apology and her eyes fall back to me. “Tessa, over to you. We are waiting.” Ben is alone on the first row with the others seated behind him. He frowns when I delay to start and I lose focus. My insides quake with trepidation. God. He’s making me nervous. The scene opens up with Romeo sneaking into Juliet's room, I know the words she says to him, his replies but once I open my mouth, they evaporate. I can’t remember.

Were we doing a scene together? My stomach sank. My new part was that of Nicholas’s spurned lover. Any scene we shared together was unlikely to be a pleasant one. As we stepped onto the stage, Nicholas touched the small of my back, guiding me toward the center where we would perform. I looked at him. “Which scene is this?” I whispered. He gave me a small, fond smile. “Scene 14.” Nodding, I flipped open the script to the correct scene.

“Didn’t expect to start with you.” “Yeah, me neither,” I muttered. “Don’t look so nervous,” he teased. “It’s just me.” “That’s exactly why I’m nervous.” He chuckled, low and amused. “Relax, Juliet. I don’t bite.” “Try not to, Romeo,” I shot back, earning a few laughs from the audience. Mr. Hales smiled. “Good energy. Let’s keep that. Page twelve — the balcony scene.” I exhaled and flipped through my script until I found the right page. My heartbeat was so loud it drowned out my thoughts. Then Adrian began, voice smooth and confident.

"Don't worry, even if there are any mistakes, we'll start over, and the entire crew is prepared to support you." Jane remained silent. She didn't know what to say, but she could detect that everyone wasn't optimistic about her. It was true; she was a newcomer with no experience, and no one had any high hopes for her. Taking a deep breath, she declared earnestly, "I'll do my best." "Okay!" Oliver agreed. Shortly after, the assistant called out, and the actors took their places. The opening scene was the initial encounter between Princess Rivera and Benjamin. Benjamin had returned triumphant and was receiving an award from the king in the court hall.

I acted like I wasn't close to puking on the floor. Inside the room were three people. One man and two women were all wearing glasses and somehow they looked scarier. “Lucy Frank,” the first woman started. And I answered with a calm tone. “Go on. Impress us,” the man began and I swallowed. “Your lines are from scene 4, page 12.” I almost didn't find it because my hands were shaking but I didn't need the book because I had memorized them. I opened my mouth and nothing came out. The man checked his watch and I closed my eyes, thinking of the one person that would make my heart race. Shane.

He wasn't in his hockey gear, just black pants, a dark sweater, his Alpha's crest at his collar. "Alpha," Yvonne said, "you know the lines, don't you? You've been watching rehearsals." Lucian's eyes found mine. "I know them," he said. He walked down the aisle. Wolves parted for him like water. He climbed the stage steps and stood across from me. "John Proctor," Professor Yvonne said. "Elizabeth. The confession scene. From the top." I clutched my script. My hands were shaking. Lucian reached out. Took the script from my fingers. Set it on the floor.

In the story, anything she touched would freeze instantly, so she always had to keep them on. Josef, the newly appointed male lead, stood a few feet away, holding his script and going through his lines one more time. His character, the dark prince who had turned good, was meant to protect the princess and help her control her powers. “Alright, everyone ready?” Eliot called from behind the monitor. A few crew members nodded. “Ready!” someone shouted from the lighting section. Scarlett and Josef exchanged a small smile before stepping into position. “Scene thirty-two, take one,” the clapperboard snapped shut.
