I was going to be needing lots of it today. The lights dimmed a moment later, and everyone settled into their seats. I was thankful for the darkness, the way it covered the tension I was sure was radiating off of me in waves. As the play began, I tried to focus on the stage, on Jake’s booming voice as Prospero and Jace’s soft, melodic delivery as Miranda, but my mind kept drifting to the man sitting close to me.

The school play was a production of a simplified version of A Midsummer Night's Dream, condensed to forty minutes for an audience of parents who ranged from genuinely interested to politely patient, held in the school hall on a Thursday evening in December with the characteristic atmosphere of these events: slightly too warm, chairs arranged in rows, a programme printed on yellow paper. Marcus had been cast as Bottom. Chloe had not fully processed the implications of this until she was sitting in the third row and her nine-year-old son walked onto the stage.

Mila asked Lily while yelling because of the loud music the DJ was playing, and Lily nodded without uttering a word. “What's the first step?” Lily asked Tessa, who was roaming her eyes around, hoping to see the man they were eagerly waiting for. “I haven't seen him yet. I hope he won't disappoint the club today. Let's wait for an hour, the game begins the moment he steps in.” Tessa yelled and Lily nodded. “I can't wait to begin.” Lillian whispered, and they walked to the bar and sat on the stool. “What do you want, ladies?” The bartender asked while smiling sheepishly.

She eagerly watched as her mother, father, Royce and Azure settled into their seats beside her. The lights dimmed further, and the curtains on the stage parted, revealing a beautifully decorated set that resembled a grand mansion. The live theater act was about to begin, and Francine's heart raced with anticipation. The actors appeared on stage, and the story unfolded. Everyone is quiet and too focused in the show.

Aurora’s expression was still a bit dazed, as if she hadn't regained her senses yet. She then remembered just now when she once again refused Magda’s request to kill Gia. Magda had ordered her to go above the stage. The heavy curtain on the stage slowly unfolded again. And on it lay two bodies. The main leads of the play. Their blood dripped down their necks. The two deadbodies were all submerged in blood. The entire stage was filled with blood. Aurora was dumbfounded at that moment. For a moment, it was impossible to tell if the acting was too realistic or if it was real.

They had pulled a comforter on both of them while Jack would peek from the duvet whenever the murderer would appear on screen. Daniel was trying to calm him down suppressing his laughter. He was enjoying Jack's frightening expressions. The second half was rather calm. Jack was getting brave as he pulled the duvet down a bit to breathe properly. Daniel had his arms around his tummy, rubbing circles. Suddenly an idea struck in his mind. He saw Jack immersed in the movie. He had a handful of popcorns and he was so focused that he forgot to take the bite.

Make it look natural. “Alright, Can I get Luther and Daniella. You two are up next.” She announced and I was not so thrilled anymore. The part she said we should prepare for was when Luther confesses his love for Daniella. That part is close to the end of the play. We haven’t been going in order of the scenes. Ms. Judith says we just need to know what we are doing so we start with the difficult ones and end with the easier ones. The scene was at a parking lot after Daniella won the singing competition and everyone was going home.

The first scene was played by Lyla. This was a flight play. A middle-aged actress would be running the lines with them. The captured princess was thrown into the imperial correction chamber to be a courtesan, and the middle-aged actress acted as a correction matron, in charge of taming the disobedient Meg and subduing her. The performance soon began. The correction matron sat upright while Meg was forced onto her knees by a few strong men. The matron adopted a stem outlook. “I heard you refuse to learn dancing?”

All grew quiet as the actors appeared, walking across the grass, and the play began. Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. It all came rushing back to Sage. He remembered seeing this play the first time it was performed, back in 1594. He had seen it in the Globe, on the banks of the Thames, standing with all the groundlings, thousands of people crammed in together, watching it. He remembered being mesmerized. And now here he was, 400 years later, and it was still as fresh to him as the first time he’d seen it.

For the last script, there had been notes and elaborations on almost every scene, explaining in detail how to play said role and what emotion to convey. However, this script was no different from what you would get from a typical stage production. While there were tips on movement and expressions, it was clearly soulless.
