All grew quiet as the actors appeared, walking across the grass, and the play began. She barely recognized when someone came over silently and sat beside her. Somewhere in the middle of the play, she caught glimpse of the person sitting next to her and flinched at once. She turned toward him with rounded-eye surprise. "Well, hello beautiful." The Earl of Blackthorne regarded her with his lazy smile. "How delightful to see you again."

Giggling, two more stepped forward, reaching out playfully. Their hands were filthy, as if they had been clawing in the dirt in the frozen garden outside. Abednego shouted at them to stay back. At this they seemed to freeze in mid-motion, and expressions of surprise and genuine offense crossed their shallow faces. There was silence. Then the eldest said if I did not wish to play, I could not speak during the choosing. "Come, ladies, to the great hall, so we can finish tonight’s event!" she said. Theroux to become a behemoth, snarled, and Abednego thought he heard a wet clamping sound and a thud of something hitting the earth.

Just for a second. Then I step inside. And everything changes. The room is filled. Nobles. Guests. Power. Every gaze turns. Some curious. Some calculating. Some cold. My eyes move across the room. Searching. And then I see them. Viola.

48 ~ROSALINE~ The room is filled with smoke and Mr Fontaine's laughter echoes round me. "Where is your night in shining armor?" The female voice I'm familiar with, chuckles. "He hasn't come for you yet. Do you think he really cares?" I turn my head to figure out where the voices are coming from but it's like they're everywhere and nowhere at the same time. My heart drums in my chest and I cover my ears. I pull myself to my feet and fall back in pain. The thorned chains are no longer on my ankles, they have been arrayed from my ankles up to my knee.

Chapter 29 Antonio has several states of consciousness when he dreams. Like this one. The man was in a large meadow. A lake lay between them. Antonio was not alone. There was a woman there. Playfully, he asked in a husky voice, "But do you want us to kiss, Lulu?" If voices could kill, his would be a lethal weapon. I swatted his hand away and rubbed my warm cheeks. "We'll fake a kiss, okay?" The game began very soon, and everyone got into position. I only had two scenes to play out—one when I was put into slumber by the spindle and another when I was woken up by the prince's kiss. After the first act, I lay on the bed and waited for the prince to arrive. Perhaps something was amiss during the story as I waited and waited but Colin never appeared. I slowly got more and more anxious.
