Adrian’s eyes widened.
“Down!” he shouted.
He lunged toward me just as something whistled through the air. I felt a rush of wind near my ear, then the sharp sound of metal hitting flesh.
He grunted — a deep, guttural sound and stumbled forward, his hand flying to his shoulder.
“Adrian!” I screamed, catching him before he fell. My phone clattered to the floor, the beam spinning wildly across the walls.
He yanked a small dart from his shoulder — silver, thin, glinting under the light, the tip wet with something dark.
