Sophia's POV It has been two days since the accident. Two days since Marcus took care of me. It shouldn't have meant anything, but he had stayed away from work, just to be sure I was fine. When I was five, I had fallen off a trampoline, my mother had barely made a fuss. In fact, she didn't even look like she cared that I had fallen, she was busy on her phone, laughing with her friends.

… Elena pov… As I approached the isolated camp, I was immediately struck by the overwhelming sense of sadness and desperation that filled the air. The once bustling and lively area had been reduced to a ghost town, with only a few people milling about, all of them dressed in protective gear and looking somber. I walked down the main road, taking in the sights and sounds of the camp. Everywhere I looked, I saw makeshift tents and shacks set up to house those who had been infected with the plague.

I couldn’t see the reasons for his change in behavior, but I didn’t feel unsafe, so I didn’t question it too much for the time being. Our ride into the nearest city was uneventful, and we reached it as the last of the light was draining from above. I’d yet to see the sun, but the sky still brightened to a gunmetal gray, the brilliant beams of energy being trapped in the ash filled clouds. To date, I had experienced aspects of the fallout from the bombs through the weather, and I’d already seen variations in what I’d known of the climate preceding the apocalypse.

It's already midnight, Katlyn and Grey are sleeping in one bed when she suddenly flinched because of the dream she is having. *** She was running out of the unknown house and when she went outside, a red car hit her all of a sudden, caused her to fall on the ground. But before she lost consciousness, she saw the plate number of the car who was driving away from her. The plate number was TU23 DRT. She crawled and asked for help after being hit, until she couldn't take any longer and she lost her sight.

“It's been a while since I heard the word normal, nothing is normal.” I turn to look at her, “If the apocalypse ends today, do you think the world will be back to normal?” I ask. Mel shook her head doubtfully. “I don't think so, important lives have been lost and there's no way people will cope with the new world without looking above their shoulders. Life used to be normal, a cure can't bring normality back”. I sigh and cut the thread. “Aright then, let's get you stitch”. *********************

When they finally finished, they dragged me outside into the wasteland. The base had been transformed into a sprawling post-apocalyptic settlement. Burned-out vehicles served as shelters, barbed wire fences marked territories, flickering fires burned in metal barrels, and groups of “survivors”— all rich Club members dressed in ragged, sexy post-apocalyptic costumes— roamed the area like predators. The sky was artificially darkened with massive screens, making it feel like the real end of the world. I was thrown into the center of the main camp, landing on my hands and knees in the dirt.

… Five years later, the first ray of sunlight finally broke through the thick, dark clouds and cast over the earth. An excited voice crackled over the radio. "Attention all survivors! The National Academy of Science has successfully developed a cure for the zombie virus! The apocalypse is over, and we've won!" Deafening cheers thundered through the base. I stood on the wall and watched as the sun slowly rose over the horizon, while Mom and Dad stood beside me, looking healthy and spirited. Dad patted my shoulder and grinned. "Shall we have a feast tonight to celebrate?" Mom smiled and nodded. "This time, we don't need bulletproof glass. Let's open the windows and get some fresh air in."

She fell back onto the bed, her eyes wide open, her voice now reduced to a whisper. "Karma… will come back… to bite you…" Before she could finish, she passed away. Dad and Mom both heard Grandma's last words. They trembled uncontrollably. After all, everyone's afraid of karma.

I vomited mouthful after mouthful of black blood, instantly staining the pure white carpet Victoria loved most. [3, 2, 1!] [Erasure protocol complete!] The instant the system's cold voice fell, an irresistible force violently ripped my soul out of my body. After the pain, my consciousness sank into endless darkness and scattered completely. All that remained was a lifeless shell, lying quietly in a pool of blood.
