The explosion was silent. A wave of heat rolled over the water, followed by a pressure wave that pushed us toward the shore. When I finally dragged myself onto the snowy docks and looked back, the North Star was gone. There was only a shimmering mist of salt and shadow where the ship had been.
The Western airships were still there, hovering like vultures.
“Where are they?” Kael whispered, having washed up beside me, his mechanical scars glowing a faint, dying red.
