“I keep finding dead ends and decoy code. She planned this, Lys. She built your nervous system like a cathedral and hid a bomb in the foundation.”
“Flattering,” Lys murmured into her pillow.
“Terrifying,” Aria corrected. “She tied the trigger to behavioral flags, not just time. Every time your stress spikes, every time your collar handshake pings against certain networks, the failsafe takes notes. I don’t know what that means yet, but I don’t like it.”
“Add it to the list,” Lys said.
Sleep came in fits, when it came at all. More often, she drifted in that grey space between rest and alertness, listening to the hum of the tower.
