It didn’t seem that eating was going to solve its crankiness. It was sulking through the forest and came across a deer. The Wraeken was not impressed. What the hell was a deer doing walking around this late? It was practically just asking to be killed. The Wraeken barely gave a chase before it caught the deer. It bit deeply into the deer’s neck and watched it fall to the ground.

That same unease. But I ignored it and nodded. “We’ve done enough tonight,” I said. “Let's leave.” We left the forest and got to the vehicles. Entering it we drove into the night. But as the forest swallowed us whole, I couldn’t stop thinking about the wolves in those tubes. Their empty eyes. Their silent screams. And the monster who made them. Alastor. Soon… I would make him scream too.

It wasn't a fancy party with all the trimmings. This was a wild werewolf feast. A large deer - Lance's kill - was the main course, with a few gallons of beer for company. Everyone gathered around the campfire to have a good time. "Best cut of meat, special for you, Alpha Albert," said a blonde woman. Darla came over with a plate of venison for the Alpha. "Thank you, Darla," Albert said as he accepted the plate.

The animal saw the patch of green it sought, and came closer. It was the Alpha who moved first, jumping over the rock and sinking his teeth into the deer’s ribcage. The deer cried as if he was pleased to finally meet his end, a defeated cry, and didn’t put up a fight. He just laid there, closing its eyes and allowing the Alpha’s teeth to bite into it until it couldn’t breathe anymore. Mateo had his legs on either side of the deer, making sure he extracted life from it before turning his face to me. The deer’s bright red blood dripped from Mateo’s mouth, and he beckoned me over with a small nod.

Right before I strike, I catch one last glimpse of his right eye, and in it I see… acceptance. The blood flows over my teeth, its distinct coppery taste flooding over my tongue. Alaster loses his footing and stumbles back, and I go with him, landing on top of him, my teeth pushing one last piercing slice into his neck as his life fades away. The forest goes silent and still as the rest of Alaster’s wolves sense his death and stop fighting, some taking fatal blows as they reel in shock from their leader’s death, others backing off in surrender and gratitude that the evil bastard is finally done with.

Shit! The deer looked startled in the direction of the noise and reared up to flee. And before he could bolt, I jumped on the fresh flesh and snapped at his neck. There was no chance of him running away anyway. My big body was on top of his and my jaw was choking the animal that was still trying to escape. I could feel the metallic taste in my mouth. I clamped my teeth tighter over his artery and could see the deer stop moving. My wolf was satisfied with what she had caught and didn't wait long to start devouring it.

It was too much, too fast. Suddenly, the nearby bushes rustled. Rhea, my wolf, growled. Something was wrong. "Alastor!" I shouted, running towards the bushes. "He's still here!" I pushed aside the branches, and there he was, crouched and ready to attack. Rhea and I pounced, easily bringing him down. "We got him," I said, breathing heavily. "Wendell may have escaped, but we'll make sure Alastor never causes trouble again."

Dead. She stepped forward, her nose twitching—searching for the golden-ribboned deer. Then she saw it. The prey was there. But it was already down. And something else was crouched over it. Feeding. A vampire. Its long limbs curled unnaturally around the carcass, pale hands slick with blood, mouth latched onto the deer's neck like a grotesque leech. The scent hit Laura a second later—rotting sweetness, sharp iron, and death. So thick it stuck in her throat.

Knowing it was time, she started heading back when she came across a herd of white-tailed deer. Even though she had just eaten a steak back at the castle, her wolf needed to hunt. And she could use the sustenance. So, she spotted a lone buck and stalked closer, her footfalls silent against the soft, rich earth. The deer lifted its head and started to bolt, but she was quicker. Lacey had him pinned in two bounds and quickly snapped its neck as her teeth sank into its flesh, not wanting it to cause any more pain than necessary. Lacey sank her teeth into the animal through its thick hide and pulled off a slab of steaming meat.

As fast as a blur, Josh sped into the forest and it wasn't long until he found a trail of animal carcasses in his path. He stopped and looked at the deer and owl bodies, all with the loss of blood and traces of blood mixed with an acidic stench left behind. Possibly the blood vomited back out. He's not seen this much animal carnage in a while. He followed the sound of feasting not too far. Soon as he arrived, he hid yards away by a tree as he caught a silver-haired Alpha sinking his teeth down on his perhaps twelfth deer in a row. Joshua furrowed his ginger brows at the Alpha feasting on the helpless animal.
