"Now that my Luna—our Luna, is here safe and sound, I believe the proper feast can commence now!" The hall resounded with another round of cheers and applause as Alpha Chester took his seat. As the feast commenced, I forced myself to pick at the food, managing no more than a few sips of water. My gaze wandered around the table, landing on Alpha Jacob, who sat at the far end, appearing cheerful as he conversed with an Elder from the Council of Wolves. His casual demeanor didn't betray any hint of knowledge or involvement in the earlier incident. It was as if he had nothing to do with the darkness I had escaped.

That also includes all the females you stole from me and my pup." He snapped. Alastor growled in response. One of the wolves leaped for him and Alastor jumped at him in response. He wrapped around the scranny wolf and before I knew it, he was standing on top of me again. The lifeless wolf thudded against the ground and Alastor spat something from his mouth. Silence followed the small gasps. The wolf's throat was torn out, his eyes rolled back into his head and blood dripped from his lips. I recoiled away from the sight, hiding my eyes in my sleeve.

It circles around to Axel, and I charge toward it and seize the back thigh. The buck falters, and its rear legs give way. Axel goes for the kill, tearing into the neck of our prey as it huffs its last breath. His teeth land solid, and he shakes and rips the deer’s throat out. Then he tears apart its belly with his powerful jaws. I crawl toward the fallen deer, but some instinct tells me to wait for my Alpha to feast before I begin. I sit on my haunches, my tongue lolling out as I pant with eagerness, a high whine escaping unbidden. It smells so good I’m drooling.

When he was satisfied, he walked back to her with the deer's blood on his mouth. “Now we move to our next prey.” “Okay, but do I have to feast on them too?” She asked warily.

A low growl, deep and distorted, echoed from somewhere ahead. Kael motioned for silence. They moved quietly toward the noise, ducking under a fallen log and pushing through a thicket. The clearing beyond was worse than either had expected. A deer stood in the middle, or what was left of one. Its eyes glowed silver, its body twisted in unnatural ways, like bone and muscle had been rearranged. Steam poured from its mouth as it turned toward them, making a sound that was almost human. Lira whispered, “What the hell”

I let out a long sigh, my thoughts circling faster than I wanted. The door creaked open once more. Derek strode in, spear in hand, his face unreadable. “What is it?” I asked. “Sightings of Alastor have been confirmed,” he said. “Markets and villages across Thornveil. And he’s searching for Orion.” My pulse jumped. “Searching?” “Rumors say Orion was seen here. Even the gate guards swear they encountered him.” Questions spilled out of me before I could stop them. “Where? When? Did they say how he looked? Was he hurt?”

On the count of three, the arrow is thrown at the prey animal and hits the side of the animal's body. The stag finally fell after running about thirty jumps of its feet.
