He was staring at Ezekiel instead, expression grim, jaw tight in a way that suggested this was not new information — only unwanted.
Ezekiel tilted his head slightly.
“You know about that, don’t you, Alessio?”
A beat of silence.
“It’s not a secret among scholars,” Ezekiel continued. “Or among those who keep records. Especially among the Vitales.”
Nathan’s stomach dropped. His head snapped toward Alessio again — this time sharper, almost betrayed.
“What is he talking about?” he demanded.
Ezekiel answered without hesitation.
“I am saying that Vitale blood is cursed.”
The words hung in the air, heavy as the stone above them.
