"How long does this state last?" "The book said... it could take a week," Harper mused, feigning uncertainty. "Once the 'molting' is complete, she'll revive." A week? Revive? I looked at these two people in despair. One was deceiving himself, the other was maliciously lying. And my body was lying right in front of them, but no one truly cared if I was actually dead. "I knew it!" Dominic suddenly let out a breath of relief, his body going limp like a deflated balloon. "How could Marina die so easily?"

She rolled her eyes but put the gun on its stand. ‘It is unloaded, and the safety is on. It isn’t my first time holding a gun.’ She said, reaching for the MRE packets and reading them. I went to the small bathroom and checked the faucet and lo and behold there was running water still. Alice came to see when she heard the sound of water. ‘What is that place?’ She signed her eyes wide with wonder and excitement. I chuckled. “I think this place belonged to one of those survivalists, but I guess he wasn’t living in this world anymore.” Alice hummed and went back to the supply room.

Perhaps I’d even keep my favourite book of poems, a reminder of where I’d come from and what had been done to me by the people I thought I could trust, by the people who said they loved me. A reminder of the human girl I used to be. I now knew I would live a very long life, and morbid as it was I wanted to keep this lesson of human cruelty till the end of it.
