I'll keep every promise I made. Then he closed the door. And the breakup I'd been about to say died in my throat. When I woke up the next morning, Joshua was already gone. For the first time, I opened the door to the room I'd never been allowed to enter. A sketchbook sat on the desk. I flipped it open. The first drawing was of a woman with her clothes half off. Gwen. The sketch wasn't even finished. I remembered begging Joshua to draw me once. He'd refused.

Dakota What do they say about shattered hopes? They leave behind broken dreams, a heaviness in the heart that lingers like a haunting shadow. Then from the fragments, one can rebuild a stronger and more resilient spirit. All of it was a bunch of crap. I felt empty, useless, and without any hope. All that was left was to crawl into a hole. Emma closed her eyes. “I already am broken.” A pause. Then softly: “But maybe I don’t have to stay that way.” The storm shattered outward. Not collapse. Not completion. Something new. Something undefined. And the moment it happened— The void beyond reality cracked open violently. The First Ones screamed. The Observer staggered backward. The Mother turned sharply.

Just us. As laughter and music swelled around them, the camera of memory captured the moment of four hearts, once fractured, now mended. Not perfect. But whole. Because sometimes, the night didn't end in darkness. Sometimes, it ended in light. And that was enough.
