She was just happy her charge had been dropped. “Honestly, I don’t care,” she said in a monotone. “We omegas are used to not getting what we actually deserve.” She shrugged and smiled sadly. The alpha took a long sip of his drink. That was something he couldn’t change no matter how hard he tried…the social hierarchy. This was a system that all packs had, something that was so deeply rooted in their societies and brains that no matter what he did, he won’t even make a dent. It saddened him though, but that was just the way things were.

“well, its not like we can submit if for another year, but I’ve complied all my transcripts so far. It’s not like I need to worry about getting in, though.” Alpha College, or AC, as everyone calls it; is the premier institution for ranked werewolves. Originally exclusive to Alphas and Betas, it expanded to include all ranked wolves, provided they meet the requirements. It’s where we learn everything about running a pack: werewolf law, diplomacy, strategy, and even combat logistics. Beyond that, it’s a hub for networking. Alliances are forged, rivalries are cemented, and the groundwork for the future of our world is built there.

Their eyes shocked in horror, mouths muffled incoherent words before Vampire ran up with a small giggle in between while swinging her own weapon. That was the last view before they fell into a dream realm. On the other hand, a few Wolf and Shepherd members gathered around. They were small in numbers and also were experimental subjects. “Alphas!” One of Wolf’s members gathered. “Betas!” The Alphas greeted them. Wolf had three power hierarchies: Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. Alpha was the leader and consisted of two people. Beta was the second in command and had four members while Gamma was the last in command, and had eight members.

The hierarchy is everything. I don't mean that loosely. I mean it in the way that oxygen is everything, not a preference, not a cultural quirk, just the fundamental structure that everything else is built on top of. Alpha at the top. Beta directly below. Then the elders, then the senior pack members, then everyone else in an order that I'm still working out but that every wolf in this house seems to understand instinctively without anyone having to explain it. Where does a human Luna fit in that structure?

“B-But… Why me? I am just an omega.” Alpha Jake glanced at Mara, sensing her uncertainty and the weight of the situation upon her shoulders. He spoke with a calm and reassuring tone, "Mara, in the eyes of the moon goddess, the status of an omega, beta, or alpha doesn't define one's worthiness. The moon goddess's choice is not based on societal ranks or hierarchies within the pack. It's about a deeper connection, a bond that goes beyond what we can see on the surface."

Darren went on, “werewolf society is very rigid when it comes to hierarchy. One’s status—Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Omega—isn’t a choice, but rather it’s in our blood. We are born into our positions.” He rose from his chair and crossed to the window, gesturing for me to follow. I joined him there, and he pointed down at Arthur, Melissa, Lily, and Brandon. “Gammas.” He pointed at a few other employees who I didn’t recognize by name yet. “Omegas.” He pointed at Liam, who was sitting in his own office down below. “Liam is my Beta, but you already knew that.” “So there is only one Alpha and one Beta? And the rest are Gammas and Omegas? With no chance of moving up in the hierarchy?”

Then I speak. "I understand your concern, Elder Monroe. Change can be unsettling." My voice is steady. Calm. I'm proud of that. "But I assure you, I take my responsibilities as future Luna very seriously." "Do you?" She doesn't look away. Doesn't blink. "Tell me, Ms. West. What do you know about pack hierarchy?" "Alphas lead. Betas advise. Deltas enforce. Gammas support. Omegas... exist." I pause deliberately. "But hierarchy isn't destiny. It's a starting point, not a prison."

"I have one more thing to talk to you about before I allow you to go with Beta Marcus; apparently the Alpha wants to see you earlier than intended because of our usual lunch rush." I can feel my heart speeding up as I think about meeting with the Alpha. There is just something about this man that terrifies me to no end. Well I'll do you the honor Luna, there’s the Alpha. The leader. His word is law. Then there’s the Beta—his right hand, keeps order when the Alpha’s busy, makes sure no one steps out of line. There's also the gamma and after that, it’s ranks—warriors, trackers, enforcers, healers… you get the picture.” I nodded, ignoring the Luna name as curiosity got the better of me. “And you are in what rank?”
