When I blinked and whispered something, she let out a shaky breath, whispering thanks to the heavens. Dad groaned weakly. He was alive but badly hurt, trapped against the steering wheel. Blood trickled from a deep cut on his forehead. Before we could catch our breath, a low, deep growl rumbled from outside the shattered windows. Then another. And another. Shadows moved through the smoke. Outside, huge wolves, circling us like predators stalking wounded prey. I opened my eyes a little and saw a huge black wolf walking toward the crash. As it got closer, it changed into a man. I froze. It was Alpha Damon. But how did he find us?

She ran her fingers along the spines, feeling calmer already. She settled herself into his desk chair, tucking her feet underneath herself. She figured grabbing a book might help her sleep or at least distract herself. It was then that she noticed a familiar leather book poking out from the center drawer. Silently, she slid the drawer open. It was the book her grandmother had given her weeks ago. A page was tabbed. Curious, she flipped to the page and her eyes widened in horror at the entry. Ava Brochade m. Smith, 1963-still living. Residence previously unknown. Whiteridge, house in Estates neighborhood. Over 100 known kills. (most of which were known to be unauthorized.)

I walked over to the refrigerator and fetched leftovers which I heated in the microwave and feasted on them happily as they covered the hunger in my stomach, bringing back a whisper of life to me. "Alpha Logan asks you to prepare hot chocolate and take it to his room." I heard Selina deliver instructions. My heart skipped a beat when I heard 'his room' from her mouth. I had been to his room almost twice daily but now it felt different when I had to go there. Was he going to fuck me hard again while…while I bind his hands with cuffs? I could feel my pants get damp at the thought of it and unconsciously nibble my lower lip as the possibility of it happening again made my heart flutter.

Ruth’s long nails pierced the Alpha’s mate, pulling out the child and discarding the lifeless bodies to the ground. The Alpha, utterly defeated, wept in despair, kneeling before Ruth. I was horrified to see her kick his head away as if it were nothing.

“We’ll get him back.” The SUV suddenly veered off the highway exit. Toward the docks. Alicia felt sick instantly. The old Dickson dock. “No,” she whispered. “Not there.” Alex’s expression darkened. “She wants us somewhere familiar.” The SUV disappeared behind a row of abandoned warehouses. Alex slammed the brakes near the entrance. The silence afterward felt monstrous. Somewhere nearby, water creaked against rotting wood. Alicia stared ahead at the shadows swallowing the dock. The same dock where Chris had been arrested.
