The beast pulled itself out from under the pile, shaking dust from its scales like a wet dog shaking water. One of its horns was cracked. A long jagged split ran from the base to the tip. Its left arm hung at a weird angle, the bone clearly broken. Its tail dragged on the ground behind it, leaving a furrow in the gravel. The beast did not look so tough anymore. "You," the beast said, panting, black blood dripping from its mouth, "you are not a normal werewolf." "I know," Kaelithra said. She crossed her arms over her ruined shirt. "Now are you going to yield, or do I have to break the other horn?"

The heat from his body was a forge at her back. Alpha Trent leaned in, his voice a low vibration that seeped into her very bones. “I am Alpha Trent of the Nightfall Pack. Now, you will tell me who you are.” The name was a curse she knew well. Dane’s stories echoed in her mind—a warrior, a legend, a monster forged in wars so brutal they had twisted his very nature. Her palms were clammy and her heart was pounding. Shaking her head in denial, Alana recalled the size of the werewolf she defeated underhandedly. “That werewolf was definitely smaller! Alastair hissed in a raspy, unfamiliar voice. Alastair’s laughter grew wilder. From a small chuckle, it rose into a raspy cackle I had never heard before. With a gaping hole in his chest, Alastair’s body grew larger, surrounded by black energy like dirty smoke. His body muscles thickened with random, terrifying bulges. Fur thinned in some areas of his skin. His claws lengthened to a point too sharp to be called a werewolf anymore. Alastair had transformed into a monster of darkness.

Arlene growled as my flesh began peeling away from my body. Slowly, I watched myself transform from an Alpha to a heinous beast. Yes, my wolf isn’t the normal wolf that everyone has, mine is a beast, a heinous beast that has been feared by the wolf kingdom. Who would ever believe that the beast everyone has been searching for is Alexander Lucius? I chuckled and slowly rose from the ground. The only thing on my mind was to kill. I couldn’t recognize anyone anymore, I have become a monster and a monster always wants nothing but blood.
