EMILY It had been one month since my life changed forever. The pain in my leg was no longer the sharp, burning agony it used to be, but it still pulsed and ached like a constant reminder of everything I had lost. My right leg was gone. Amputated. Just like that. One gunshot and everything spiraled. I had cried rivers, screamed into pillows, and cursed the world-but none of it brought my leg back. The only thing that kept me going now was the tiny life I cradled every morning.

I didn't inquire about the Shaw family at all in the past six months, but some gossip still reached my ears. I heard life had become hell for them. After Jackie's amputation, the fungal infection in his leg wounds remained incurable. The blood-red blisters spread above his waist, bursting to release foul-smelling yellow pus. To treat him, the Shaw family hired experts both locally and abroad, and spent thousands every day importing specialized medicines for him. But more terrifying than his physical decay was Jackie's twisted psyche. Having lost his legs and health, he could no longer feign that pitiful appearance like he used to do.

It would probably take really long to finish, but I wanted it done sooner rather than later. April had called and told me about her doctor visit. The doctor told her she could do her physical therapy at her pack, but that he had no experience making or placing prosthetic limbs. He referred her to a hospital that was a few hours away, that had the most experience dealing with these types of injuries. She would have to lie about some things though, it was too fucking unbelievable that she had just lost the leg. Shit, her leg looked like she was born that way. The scar had almost completely disappeared by now.

Luciano's POV The smell of disinfectant filled my nose. I forced my eyes open and met the doctor's grave expression. "Mr. Damiani, your legs were severely crushed in the car accident. To save your life, we had no choice but to perform an amputation…" Amputation? My legs… were gone? I lay there on the hospital bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.
