THOMAS WOLFE WAS RIGHT. You can’t go home again. And I wouldn’t have had it not been for my sister’s accident. I flew back to Wilmington, North Carolina, and sat vigil over her for weeks listening to the beeps and clicks of the machinery that kept her alive, pleading with her not to die. Martha was the one person in this world who had always been there for me, believed in me, looked up to me, and never failed me. And I, Richard Charles Baimbridge, could not survive without her.

"Now we can plan how to save Elias without walking straight into their trap." "We?" Amara looked surprised. "I've been hiding in these woods for years, watching over you from a distance. I'm done hiding." I pulled out an old wooden box from under a floorboard. Inside lay a staff carved with old symbols—my mother's staff. "You're a Keeper," Amara realized. "Half-Keeper," I amended. "My mother was Thalia's sister. I was sent to watch over you when you were born." "Why didn't you tell me before?"

The jock retorted. Savannah fixed her gaze back on Mia. “You’re pathetic. I bet you did it on purpose just so you could touch him.” The girl got closer, glaring at the girl dressed in black. “Dream on bitch. He’s never going to be interested in an ugly whore like you.” Without warning, she gave Mia a sharp shove, causing her to stumbble backwards. Mia scoffed and retreated. “You’re both as delusional as each other.” Savannah watched her new step-sister leave before pulling her boyfriend away. His eyes were lingering on Mia a little longer than she would have liked.

This woman, this fae, was dangerous. And she was called Mathilda, which means she wasn't the keeper, but probably works for the keeper. "Not probably, Sherneil. I do work for the keeper. She is my elder sister, after all," she said softly, still standing where she was. "Certainly not the keeper. But possibly stronger than her. Trust me," she said again, this time, in my mind. Damn! She can hear my thoughts! "I can do so much more, wolf." Behind her appeared five Sisters of the Keep. The large ones. The ones that had chased us just before Lisa had found us. The ones scared of the rain.

Irina said, carefully. "Well." The recorder shifted slightly higher. "You married Neo McKinney while your sister was in a coma. Your sister, who by all accounts, was supposed to be his wife. I'm sure I'm not the first one to ask." She cocked her head. "What I'm wondering is-are you Neo McKinney's wife? Or are you just keeping the seat warm until Anna wakes up?" The Atlanta afternoon seemed to go perfectly still. Or maybe that was just Irina's head that went quiet while the rest of the world buzzed at its normal volume.

I shouted, "Jessica, I'm still your sister!" Jessica growled, "What kind of bullcrap sister? I've always been prettier and luckier than you. Why do you get all the good things in the end, while I turned into a mess? "Don't worry. As long as you cooperate, I'll make your death quick." She wanted to kill me again and restart everything, but Brett was too scared. After all, this was a prison sentence waiting to happen.

I gave him a small smile of thanks and followed Lari out, and we headed down the street to our parent’s home. Everyone we passed gave Lari a small bow of respect, and she was so used to it by now she just kept on chatting about how excited Mom and Dad were going to be. I couldn’t help but smile as my sister is the Luna of one of the two biggest packs in North America. And now I am the Gamma female of the pack. I will need to ask about my duties as such. I heard one of them is I am Gamma to the Luna, which happens to be my sister. I have no problem with that job.

Jessica kept screaming, "Who do you think you are?! You're nothing but a leech!" "I told you, I'm his sister! If you don't believe me, ask Dennis yourself! Call him right now, and I'll speak to him!" I tried to explain, but she didn't care at all. She only raised her hand and stopped the assault when I grew dizzy and everything started spinning.

I don't know her name but I know they are close enough to be best friends. " Bryn Jensen." " Jensen?" He nods at my confused state. " She's Keeper's sister. I was surprised too, that's why I had to be sure it was her. I have followed her around for quite a while and I overheard she's planning to kill Lyra tonight. Reason? Envy. Jealousy. I don't think Keeper knows about this— " And you are a hundred percent sure this information is true?" " I swear on my life and my children's. Lyra is in danger."

Instead of saying anything, I simply stared at her. She scoffed. "Forget it. At the end of the day, you're still my baby sister. I've already blocked and deleted that guy's number. I'm warning you—I won't hold back again if I find out that you're still with him after this." When I nodded obediently, her lips curved into a triumphant smirk before she left with a skip in her step. I had a feeling that she planned on using her own number to contact Xander, with the excuse that she had changed numbers.
