I couldn't even remember. The sight of him—all tall and imposing—scared the living hell out of me. I'd never met this man personally, but I knew him by reputation like everyone else. He was known as The Cruel Alpha and was allegedly the Alpha King's right hand. He was known for being vicious, and he'd killed many men during the war that wrecked our world. During the reign of the old alphas, women were respected. Adored. Now, they were nothing. Just playthings. Breeders.

Ava’s power prickled beneath her skin, reacting instinctively to the foreign energy around her. They entered the war hall—a circular chamber crowned with a dome of stained glass. The floor was polished dark wood, the walls lined with maps, weapon racks, and banners bearing the East Pack crest: a silver wolf with eyes like fire. And in the center stood Alpha Rhian. He was older than Ashton, but no less commanding. His silver-streaked hair was pulled back into a knot, and his eyes were piercing and strange—like moonlight through smoke. His presence quieted the room the moment they stepped inside.

"Aria, you must be lying to me, right? Our boy is still alive..." I pulled a photograph from my inner pocket. "This is a photo of our son's death." His body was pale as death, full of holes, not a drop of blood left in him. "I wish more than anything this was all fake! I wish my precious child was still alive in this world... My face contorted, brows knitting so tightly they almost touched, and my eyes squeezed shut as hot tears streamed down my cheeks. My mouth stretched wide in grief, the corners pulled down, quivering as if the pain was clawing its way out of me but no sound came out just the tears.
