Another’s annihilation. The thought follows me like a shadow. Which am I? t, side by side. The farmers murmur around us, bringing water, blankets. One—a girl no older than twelve—presses a bruised apple into the Child's hand.

[Apple] Raising a single eyebrow, a young man with dazzling golden hazel eyes helps me regain my footing. My breath catches, as his warm hands send tingles along my arms. “It's dangerous out here, Miss,” he warns, as he hands me my bag, his face blank and uninterested.“You should watch your step.” “Thank you,” I reply nervously as I lean over to gather my remaining items off the ground. “My name’s Apple,” I start to say as I look up again only to discover that he has vanished, almost as if he was never there.

In the morning, I would go ask the farmer for a job. I entered the barn and noticed it was a place for storing hay. I took off my wet clothes and left them to dry, lay down on the hay, and soon the exhaustion hit me. The rain started pouring heavily again. That's all I remember before I fell asleep. [...] I woke up to the sound of footsteps coming toward me and, quickly, I put on the clothes I had left drying. Morning had begun, and the rain had stopped.

But then I saw something, something that brought a flicker of hope to my chest: a pawpaw tree, its golden fruits dangling low from the branches. I approached it slowly, my eyes darting over my shoulder, scanning for anyone who might’ve been trailing us. The twins had quieted a bit, now reduced to soft whimpers, and I knew why, they were hungry, tired, in desperate need of clean clothes. Their little bodies trembled in my arms as I reached up and plucked a ripe fruit.

Could she be going crazy or was something playing tricks on her? “Did you hear that?” Miles looked at Angela worriedly. Angela nodded as they both got scared. Miles quickly plucked some apples from the trees, throwing them down as Angela picked them one by one at alert. She picked up to eleven, putting them in the blue bag she was able to retrieve from the burnt house. The bag had a hole but the apples were too big to pass through the hole. They were okay for now. Angela had never seen such red big juicy apples in her life. They looked enticing and perfect. A face of something smiling evilly reflected on the apple she was holding. It made her shriek dropping all apples on the floor.

He muttered and went to the living room. "¿Donde esta Andrew?" (Where is Andrew?) He asked one of his maids. "Aqui," (here,) a different maid replied in the kitchen. "What do you need from me?" Andrew asked, coming out of the kitchen with a plate of apples and a knife. "¿Comerás manzana?" (Will you eat an apple?) Andrew asked Santiago didn't bother to respond, he knew Andrew better enough to know that he doesn't want to share the apple with him and apple wasn't the reason why he called for him

I explained softly as my words trailed off. The chimera had come out of the forest. I still had nightmares of the sounds from that night. Just thinking about it made me shudder, pulling my shawl tighter. "You could get in big trouble out there alone. Here..." I sighed as I tried to find the latch to the gate. "Yeah... that was me. Which is why I was cleaning up my mess," Andy admitted. "Well, I only get in trouble if I'm found. Unless you count trouble being that colt who thinks he can knock me down," he said.

You're fired. Fired. It was the worst news in a long time. I remembered an old book, ‘The Catcher in the Rye'. The protagonist is at some point left alone in the middle of the city, penniless and heartbroken, just as I was at that moment.
