I tell myself that I don’t notice anything, that it's not my place to ask. But as I pick up Selene’s clothes, my fingers brush something rough under one of the fabrics. It makes me pause. I remove it from the rest and keep the others aside. It’s a patch of old cloth. It’s a bit stiff and has uneven stitchings. I lift it up to my eye level, and the air seems to still.
