"I felt the creep whenever I came here." I ran my fingers of the spine of each book and then I read the manga's title one by one: "Hanayori Dango", "Harumatsu bokura", "Tsubaki chou planet", "Reimei no Arcana", "Akatsuki no yona". These are all shoujo (romance genre). But there are other sport genre too, like: "Slam dunk", "Haikyuu", "Prince of tennis", "Eyeshield twenty-one", "Kuruko basketball". Fantasies and action genres are available too: "Demon slayer", "Hakuoki", "Bungou stray dogs", "Attack on titans".

We took the bus to her shared apartment, and the moment we were inside her room, I threw my bag onto the floor and sat down on the chair behind the study desk. Jess’ room was pleasantly neat and tidy, with stacks of textbooks, and of course, BL manga and light novels, sitting on the desk. On her single bed were a few soft toys. Naturally, they were of male characters who had strong gay undertones from famous anime such as Sebastian and Ceil from Black Butler, Yuu and Mika from Owari no Seraph, Eren and Levi from Attack on Titan, and Yuuri and Victor from Yuri on Ice. I knew the characters because I had to suffer countless hours watching the anime with her.

She goes silent as I turn back to the book in my hands. I flip back a few pages and start reading again, letting myself get lost in the world of dragons and werewolves.

I wiped my tears of joy; “it’s koukousei tantei.” “Yeah, fine, okay,” Marcella held her hands up in time with the roll of her eyes; “I’m joining because of Kudo Shinichi!” Then, she pointed her finger at the Detective. “Shinjitsu w* Itsumo Hitotsu!” My brows rose upon watching and hearing her imitation of the anime character’s catchphrase. So, I noted, “Detective, she has a better Japanese accent than you.” She huffed. “Well, apologies to the both of you. I have only watched the English adaptation of that show. I haven’t even met my parents’ inspiration for my name yet.”
