It howled painfully, shifting its weight off of him. The man rolled toward Amira, crouching in front of her. He grabbed her hand where she was squeezing the knife so tight that her knuckles turned white.

It was unmistakable—the sound of rogue wolves. “Rogues,” the man muttered, his expression hardening. Annatoria’s wolf stirred within her, primal and fierce. There was no time for hesitation. Her instincts took over as she shifted into her wolf form, every muscle in her body coiled and ready to fight. The rogues appeared from the darkness, their eyes glowing with malice, and she lunged into action.

The first sentry launched at me, a chocolate brown wolf with eyes determined but with a snap of my head and a sharp spin on the spot I sent the wolf crashing to the ground, further diminishing the moral of his cronies.
