I asked, not completely clear on what she meant. “The wolves… Stronger, faster, and their forms…” she pulled in a deep breath. “They looked mutated some bigger than usual. I never seen anything like it.” My memory immediately went back to the wolf that attacked Ana. It was, indeed deformed. It looked at Amira with crazed eyes, snarling aggressively, but it was enough of a distraction for the man below it to take out his own knife and stabbing the Wolf through the stomach. It howled painfully, shifting its weight off of him. The man rolled toward Amira, crouching in front of her. He grabbed her hand where she was squeezing the knife so tight that her knuckles turned white.

It was unmistakable—the sound of rogue wolves. “Rogues,” the man muttered, his expression hardening. Annatoria’s wolf stirred within her, primal and fierce. There was no time for hesitation. Her instincts took over as she shifted into her wolf form, every muscle in her body coiled and ready to fight. The rogues appeared from the darkness, their eyes glowing with malice, and she lunged into action.

The first sentry launched at me, a chocolate brown wolf with eyes determined but with a snap of my head and a sharp spin on the spot I sent the wolf crashing to the ground, further diminishing the moral of his cronies. In a savage display of power, she sank her fangs deep into the back of his neck, eliciting a bloodcurdling yelp that shattered the tranquility of the surrounding evergreens. In a relentless frenzy, Amani shook her adversary with a ferocity that bordered on madness. The sickening snap of bones echoed through the air as the wolf's spine succumbed to the unyielding pressure of her vise-like jaws.

Then, in the heat of the moment, Anton reaches out and lifts my chin with his fingers, his gaze locking with mine. My breath hitches as his golden-brown eyes—so much like a wolf’s—flash before me. They shift in color, flickering from a warm amber to the blue I know so well. His wolf is fighting to break free, but Anton won’t let him. I have heard of how the wolf of an Alpha is the hardest to control. He must be fighting hard to push his wolf back.
