I knew he wasn’t mad at me but, I froze on the spot. We stared down each other. No one is budging. I think he was waiting for my answer. I AM Holy crap, this was crazy. “Because she wasn’t acting alone. There is something bigger going on.” I tell the wolf. I think I lost it. This couldn’t be real.

I stood frozen on the stairs, Lola growling in the back of my mind as we watched Amelia, no, Amelia's wolf, disappear into the tree line. Her copper fur had gleamed like fire under the security lights before the darkness swallowed her. My best friend had a wolf. A massive, beautiful wolf that put most of the pack's to shame. And they had cast her out, humiliated her, whipped her bloody on her birthday… all while her wolf had been there, waiting, growing stronger in secret.

As she looked across the clearing it was filled with wolves, black, brown, grey, sable, and one lone white wolf. He was immense and stood on the precipice, watching those below. A black wolf that was just as big approached and stood by his side. They exchanged glances and looked in her direction. She had to side step to avoid being bowled over by the gigantic black panther that barreled past her on her way to the top of the bluff. She rubbed her body along the side of the white wolf. She purred as he licked her head.

And that someone was like a warm moonlight in my gloomy life. "Amethyst!" I thought I was hallucinating. His voice calling out to me was like a trance. Suddenly, the screams and footfalls became silent. His refined black wolf, materializing among the woods, emerald eyes boring into mine and as his paws hit the ground, I heard earth's soft murmur, a minute and delicate tremble that only I could hear. I watched the scenes unfold, and before he could reach me, I awakened from my blank stupor and kicked one man in his groin. Several werewolves popped behind rows of thick bushes covered by white snow. Everything was a blurry mess. I spun backward when Knight took down the guards off me.

Pieces of fur ripped out and lay on the ground in clumps, in the end I pinned the wolf and decapitated him with my jaws. "I'm here." Anders declared as they ran into the clearing, his big black wolf radiating power. His wolf was beautiful, his fur so dark it could blend into shadow and the eyes glowing so red it was as if they had a flashlight behind them. He looked around widely until his eyes settled on me. He scanned me, seeing minor cuts and scrapes, and let out a low growl saying, "You should’ve waited for me."

However, his progress was halted when a massive wolf leapt in front of him, its jaws gaping and its eyes flashing with deadly intent. Alister's mind raced as he assessed the situation. The wolf was clearly a beta, but that didn't mean it wasn't a formidable opponent. Its black coat was mottled with patches of fiery red fur, which seemed to glow in the light of the moon. Alister could sense the raw power emanating from the creature, and he knew he would have to be quick and decisive if he wanted to take it down.
