Glancing at him, I shook my head and grinned. “Do you mind?” July's frigid tone broke me out of my thoughts.

The sound that escaped was a low, rumbling chuckle, eyes glinting as he watched her animatedly gesture at him. “You’re blaming me for your grades?” he asked, still laughing softly, a dangerous, amused undertone threading through his voice. “Yes!” she exclaimed, throwing her head back dramatically. “All your fault! You’re the reason my brain isn’t working!” He shook his head, laughter spilling out now, echoing lightly in the study. The sound was warm yet teasing, and Timtim felt herself softening slightly despite her frustration. She rolled her eyes at him, trying to regain her composure, but the corners of her mouth betrayed her, tugging into a small, amused smile.

The more he pushed, the more my irritation grew. It wasn't just about the tomatoes, though. Richard's constant chatter, and his ongoing need for validation and attention, grated on my nerves. His animated conversations and enthusiasm clashed with my reserved nature, leaving me craving moments of silence and solitude. The obvious difference between our personalities intensified my annoyance and made our living together more challenging.

A message bubble lit up under his name, cheerful and oblivious. Just another one of his dry, stupid jokes—something about his dinner being so terrible he was convinced the restaurant was trying to assassinate him with undercooked chicken. He'd probably attached one of those ridiculous GIFs he was always finding, something animated and silly that was meant to make me laugh.
