Shattered Vows
My heart thundered as he stared down at me, his eyes unreadable.
I tried to pull away.
He didn't let go.
"I'm not pathetic," I said, panting, my voice barely above a whisper.
"You are," he said evenly, leaning in just slightly, daring me.
"I'm not!" I shouted, but my voice cracked under the weight of my emotions. Was he right? Was I really that lost? That broken?
Tears welled in my eyes.
"You're pathetic because you're living in a lie," he said, voice lower now. "Running from yourself. Lying to yourself. About who you are. About what you want."
