I had to fight the urge to turn around and run back out of the building, as I knew we were there for a purpose.
We made our way into the elevator and rode it to the third floor. The ammonia smell intensified, causing my stomach to gurgle. As I took in my surroundings, I saw a small hallway that seemed to go on forever, lined with doors. We continued to the right, finally coming across apartment 310, which had an eviction notice attached to the door. The door was opened slightly. As we stepped inside, the condition of the apartment was heartbreaking; the walls were painted in faded green, while cracked tiles were scattered on the floor.
