Chapter 177- Lost battle Damien walked briskly as he went to Sophia's room to ask if she had seen the diary. He knocked but there was no response, he discovered the room was open and walked into it. He found the Dairy lying on her table as he picked it up. Why'd she pick up his diary? He wondered. As he turned to leave,his eyes caught the pill container. The words of Ava came echoing in his mind as he wanted to see what it contained.

Marcellus stumbled through the door of his study, his footsteps heavy and unsteady. The dim light of the overcast sky seeped in, casting long, oppressive shadows across the room. The desk was piled high with documents, but he couldn’t bring himself to even glance at them. Instead, he reached into the hidden compartment of a mechanism box and retrieved the object that haunted him—his diary. Its cover was worn from countless readings, the edges frayed by his desperate hands.

I never wanted to see this box again. Why am I here? Why did this force bring me here? "Let me out. Let me out." I hear that voice again. I'm still not in control of my body. I watch my hands grab the box. My mom sealed it with a spell only she can undo but somehow as I grab it, it clicks open and all the magic that was sealed in there finds it's way inside of me. It passes through my nostrils, my ears, my mouth and I feel it rushing through my veins. Oh no. What have I done?

Nothing more than herbs and chemicals that kill my appetite and purge my body. But I couldn’t help but wonder… What if my handmaid was right? What if there really was something more sinister in those supposed diet supplements? A hundred terrifying scenarios flashed through my mind, each more disturbing than the last. Finally, the apothecary returned after what felt like an eternity with a small sheet of paper gripped in his weathered hand. “I have run the standard analysis,” he said, holding the sheet out to me. I felt my throat constrict as I reached out with a trembling hand to take the paper. Unfolding it slowly, I scanned the list of chemical compounds, my eyebrow furrowing in confusion

“While we were in there, I received a text. The guards have found the apothecary’s files from the correct year.” “Let’s go at once,” I said, my dwindled hope rebuilding once more. When we entered the apothecary’s shop, the binder of files was out on the counter. I went over at once. One of my guards had already started coming through. “Here,” he said, showing me the year. “A lot of poison went out this year. And all to one person.” My blood ran cold, my outrage burning a bright flame in my chest. Darius.

Her smile looked like it hurt. The closet came next. Her clothes were still arranged by color, by season. Heels lined up like a fashion show. Then I saw a shoebox, taped shut with yellowing masking tape. I hurried to open it and inside were old prescriptions, anxiety meds sleep aids. Then painkillers. The kind doctors stop prescribing when things get too dark. And then... the diary. Black leather. Worn edges. Her name is engraved inside the cover like a brand. I hesitated, then flipped it open. I skipped the later entries. I already knew how the illness crept in.

“She refuses to leaver this house. I had to practically drag her out to the falls today.” “Just leave her be. If she is in this house you don’t have to stay.” “Thank you Alpha.” “Xander come one, we’re home. It’s uncle.” “Sorry uncle.” I hear their footsteps fade away as I pull the book out. It has a leather binding and the pages appear old. I open the first page and don’t find a name but the first entry of a diary. July 1st

He bowed and was gone as quickly as he arrived, leaving the heavy satchel behind. I lunged for the bag the moment the tent flap sealed. I untied the cord with shaking fingers and pulled out the book. It wasn't ancient and brittle. It was a modern reprint, but the cover read: Healers' Lore: The Legacy of the Wounded Crown. It was a medical text, disguised as a historical relic.

A small, easy breath left him. Then he opened the diary again and turned the page. “Alright,” he muttered. “Let’s see what’s next.” ______ Episode 8 – The Serial Cheater The air in the dimly lit hotel bar was thick with the scent of expensive perfume and spilled whiskey, but Marcus breathed it in like it was pure oxygen. At a corner table, he leaned back in his leather chair, his fingers tracing the rim of his glass as he watched her.
