The Toy . . "Ariel," my mother called out, her voice fragile. "No, it's me, Aria. Mummy, it's me.” I rushed to her side, taking hold of her hand. Tears welled up in my eyes as I felt her weak grip. My chest fluttered, but it felt mocking. Deep down, I knew she wasn’t looking for me. "See, Ariel has long hair; mine is short, Mummy," I said, my voice trembling with desperation and sadness.

Ella passed me a blanket I didn’t know was on one of the chairs. We got to the part where Ariel saves prince Eric from drowning and it felt like she fell in love at first sight. It felt similar to the way I felt when I saw Marcelo’s picture for the first time. Then we got to the part where she gave up her beautiful singing voice to become a human being which was mostly influenced by the love she has for prince Eric, thinking about this part again I gave up my value to become Marcelo’s fake bride. I guess I’m a lot like Ariel, like a little mermaid, so independent yet gave up her life for the man she loves but the only difference between us is Marcelo doesn’t feel the way I feel for him.

Your mother Margaret… please, tell me you see me.” Ariel’s expression softened with pity, not recognition. She leaned closer, studying Margaret’s face. Her brows furrowed in concentration, then she shook her head slowly. “I… I don’t see anything. What do you want me to remove from your face? Because nothing is there.”

It was just enough. When I looked up again, I was looking into dark brown eyes. “Oh, I see,” said Shorter. “No stripper, but he got me a mermaid!” He reached for my arm and pulled me from the covering branches. “What’s your name small mermaid?” “Ariel,” I tossed back at him sanusily, trying to pull out of his grasp. “You’re hot Ariel. Such a nice gift.” He pulled me flush against him and lowered his mouth to mine. I was too shocked to protest, both at being called hot and that this stranger was kissing me.

Normally his flings do not last beyond three to four days and here he is, spilling every single detail and gushing about how beautiful, smart and sensual this Ariel is. “Oh, you should meet her, Laurel! You know what I mean,” Terzo said dismissively.

Tinsley agreed as the woman finished speaking, then she asked to hear her kids' voice then some minutes passed before she heard Ariel crying out. “Mum please save us, we don’t want to be here and Aiden and Emma have also been crying since mom, please save us," Ariel said.
