If the reddened state of her face wasn't proof enough that something wicked had touched her, the prints definitely did it. Ivy turned away from her, and walked over to her mirror. She didn't flinch when she saw the damage done to her. In fact, she touched it. Despite the extra burn contact with it caused, she touched it, registering the pain in her head. It was a pain she wanted to memorize for the future. Because in that future, there would be vengeance. And when vengeance came, she would dare the anti’s to tell her she wasn't justified. “Did Natasha do this to you?”

She had ripped the IV from her arm; blood stained her cloth in a thin, angry line. Her gaze darted from Tom to me. "Can I see my mother?" she asked. "You can see your mother anytime you wish, Ivy," I said, eyes flicking to the wound in her hand. "But why did you pull the drip and rush out?" Inwardly I prayed she hadn’t listened to my conversation with Tom. "I overheard," Ivy said bluntly. Tom’s hand slid to his sword. I shot him a sharp look. "Don’t you—" I swallowed the rest. I composed myself and said to Tom, "You are dismissed."

Because we both knew exactly why. Ivy stared at me for another long second before finally turning toward the doorway. But halfway out of the kitchen, she stopped. Looking back over her shoulder with a small, dangerous smile, she said: “What if I only want to stream for you tonight?” Christ. My control snapped for half a second. I took one step forward before catching myself, fists clenched at my sides. Ivy saw it all—the hunger, the restraint, the raw need. And she smiled like she finally knew she had just as much power over me. Little brat. She was going to pay for that.

Her scent seems to be everywhere. "I I ain't available " I returned to my laptop. "It's a call fro. St Martin's Hospital. " Snatched the phone from his hand "Hello" There was silence at the end of the line. "Hello, this is St Martin's Hospital, Miss Ivy has regained consciousness. " "Yes!" I jumped into the air and did a little dance before regaining control of myself. "Thank you" The call was dropped immediately.

Waiting, the way she’d waited at the ledger, at the map, at every locked thing she’d ever found before deciding how to open it. “I’m not going to tell anyone you’re here,” Ivy said. “Not Ashworth. Not the camp. Not anyone, until you tell me I can.” The woman studied her the way Yara studied a scene before she’d commit to a reading of it. “You mean that.” “I mean it because I know what it costs to be found by someone who decided for you,” Ivy said. “I’m not doing that to you.” Something in the woman’s shoulders came down, not relief exactly — closer to a held thing finally being permitted to rest. “Then you understand more than you found on that wall.”

“I’m Sable. Kade’s cousin. You must be Ivy.” “I am.” Ivy shifted the empty cup in her hands, embarrassed despite herself. She had woken early, disoriented in the unfamiliar room, the ceiling too high and the silence too complete for her body to recognize it as safe enough for real sleep. She had set out to find coffee with nothing but instinct guiding her, which had apparently failed within the first ten minutes. “Nobody gave me a map.”

I replied.

Half vampire? The thought felt ridiculous, and yet, staring at him now, the pieces began to fall into place. Ivy’s gaze hardened with determination. She couldn’t let him suffer, couldn’t stand by and watch him writhe in pain. If blood was what he needed, then so be it. Her hands trembled as she reached for the small blade her father always kept on the nightstand—a habit he had developed after too many sleepless nights filled with uneasiness about an intruder. She hesitated, the edge hovering over her forearm. What if she was wrong? What if this did more harm than good?

Ivy turns around and runs out of the training field, holding the book, map and touch light. I wonder how she'll successfully sneak back with all that load. About to leave the place, I hear a loud wince from the forest. Tracing the sound, I see someone hanging upside from a tree, his legs being held up with a rope tied to the tree. There's a small dart on the side of his head. Someone had set a trap, and this unlucky fellow had triggered it, falling into it. Wait, this is the exact route Ivy was coming towards. This gal better fall in ye trap so we all leave.

"Ivy," I called. She didn't say a word. Instead, she went for a hug. I wasn't able to respond to her hug because I froze at where I was standing. I couldn't move as her body stunned me intentionally.
