I had to have her. My parents were literally the only fated mates I knew. That’s how rare it was now. It was one of the biggest reasons Alexander was such a feared and successful boss. To have a fated mate made you infinitely stronger, and everyone knew you would literally stop at nothing to protect your family. If something happens to your mate, you can’t go on. Most go insane or just kill themselves so protecting them was above all else.

"That's sweet. Is it...forever?" Abby laughs a little. "Yeah. And I know that seems kind of weird, like we don't have a say in this, but we see mates as a really positive, joyful thing.
