I chuckle groggily, folding my arms as I softy shake my head. “Fine. I was still awake last night when the rain finally stopped. And when it did, I just couldn’t sleep; so, I went out for a run and decided to go on a little impromptu exploration around the campsite,” Ash shrugs casually while kneeling to face me, still teasingly holding what’s in his hand out of my sight, “-I thought it would be nice to do without getting soaked for a change. I ended up stumbling into this meadow, and let’s just say we’ll be eating pretty darn good for the next two days. Well, I hope it lasts that long, at least. I guess you can never really tell with this greedy lot, I suppose,” he makes a light-hearted jok

Asher cursed under his breath at the thought of the officials being around to see who might invade the house. Inhaling deeply, he grabbed his backpack, covered his bruised face with his hoodie, and went where he came in. Not intending to know who it might be, he turned to leave. But then he paused when he noticed the person at the door didn’t seem like any official. Curiosity gnawed at his mind. Clearing his throat, he walked towards her. “Who are you here to see?” He queried. Dawn gasped in shock, almost losing her footing. With a hand to her chest, she glared at him. “Goodness, you scared me.”

Flame licks the treeline on the far ridge, smoke pouring black into the white sky. I lift my head, blood dripping from my jaws, and turn toward the sound. Holt snarls beneath me, writhing to break free, but my weight holds him pinned down. The scent of ash and resin pollutes the air. Ashgrave seems to be openly declaring their allegiance to Redmaw. They’ve gotten their hands on explosives somehow and they’re doing what they can to turn the tide of this fight. Through the smoke, they pour, Derren at the front.

Ash’s POV The roar of the clubhouse hit me before I even turned off my engine. Laughter, shouts and the sound of bottles clinking rent the air and for a moment, I wonder how they could easily fall back into their normal lives less than twelve hours after an attack. It was chaos the way I remembered it, but somehow louder and more… non challant. Inside, the air was thick with smoke and sweat. A few brothers cheered when they saw me, others nodded, their eyes sharp, reading me like they weren’t sure what version of Ash had come back.

"I suppose I could." "Excellent. My car is just here." Sinclair waved at the black sedan parked along the street. The lights turned on, momentarily blinding Belishaw. He raised a hand to shield his eyes as Sinclair stepped out of the way to allow him to climb inside. He was halfway in when he was suddenly shoved from behind. He collapsed onto the seat, and something sharp jabbed into the side of his neck. The beast inside him, the one that always surged to the surface when his life was threatened, now sank deep into a dark abyss beyond his reach. The cool leather seat pressed against his cheek, and it was the only relief he felt as a flood of heat surged within his body.

The wind scattered the ashes, and the rain soaked them, washing them away little by little amidst the flowing water. Sheila fell out of her wheelchair and hit the ground. Further in the distance, Ironclad dragons train with their bondeds, bronze scales glimmering beneath the rising sun. Terrifying, but majestic. For a few silent moments, I simply watch. Because despite all else, I still love them. I always have, even though Aetherion Academy was not supposed to be my future.
