It echoed through the air, leaving a cloud of smoke hung in the air, and the smell of gunpowder lingered like a warning of the violence that had just occurred. I couldn't feel my legs anymore. I fell to the floor as I watched the lifeless body of Thomas who was crawling to survive a few minutes away on the floor. ASHER IS A MURDERER. ASHER IS A MONSTER. I was still trying to bear the pain of what just happened before my eyes when Asher turned around, and he started walking towards me. When he was far away from the lifeless body of Thomas in his pool of blood. Asher pressed a red button and the entire car caught fire with Thomas beside it, the red blazing hot flame consuming his already dead

"Then you must have equally done a lot of shit with Alex. Alex Shorters.” What the hell did Faith and Cassie blab to him? Alex Shorters was merely one of my admirers back in Minnesota and I only had a crush on him, nothing more. “Shut up!" I glared hard at Asher. He seemed super pleased to have hit a nerve. “Yeah, you guys have done it a million times in many dirty and different ways." Has he suddenly gone nuts? How dare he say that to me? Without thinking, I picked the object nearest to him and flung it hard at his head.

Because I was unmarked, I was the Alpha, but once Asher marked me, he would be the Alpha and I would be the Luna. But Asher's pack had destroyed a quarter of the country. Killed thousands of innocent people. And it was broadcast on live TV. But so was this battle. Asher had someone hack into Jackson's security system around the mansion and everything was caught on camera. Including me killing Jackson, and the fighting stop with his pack bowing to me.

“Who sent you? And what's in it for you?” Daniel asked, still trembling while the latter stayed relaxed as if death was no threat to him. “I came on my own Accord.” He muttered lazily, his eyes nearly closing up when one of the investigation shoulders splashed warm water on his face. He sprung to reality, the hint of drowsiness he had before on his face was now vanished as though it never was. “I said I came on my own accord, you unleashed dogs!” He cursed, his brows furrowed as he shot a glare towards me.

Before I could utter a foolish word like ‘break a leg,’ Asher had pulled away and was headed towards the stage with the other guys. “I wonder if she even has enough money to bid on the least of all of them.” I heard one of Serena’s minions whisper, albeit not so low because everyone in the damn hall heard her. They reminded me of sharks closing on their prey…or rather, killer whales. Asher winked at me from where he stood in the center, the tallest of all of them….he was so fucking handsome. Just then, the television displayed the most infuriating headline,

I was a worthless human being, and I deserved to die in that field. Ash took another drink then wiped his bottom lip with his thumb. “I’m sorry, man. I really am.” “I know you are.” “What’s your next move?” “Get back on my feet. Kill Maddox. It’s pretty simple.” Ash gave a slight nod. “May not be that simple. He’ll expect it.” “Doesn’t make a difference. I’ll get him one way or another.” “You got me and Damien behind you.”

She looked straight up into the security camera lens mounted above the glass doors. My heart stopped dead in my chest. The breath was ripped from my lungs. It was her face. The delicate nose, the high cheekbones, the full, sharp curve of her lips. But her eyes weren't the quiet, timid eyes of the broken girl I had married. They were cold, lethal, and burning with ruthless ambition. Beside her, holding a leather briefcase, was Harper. The audio feed from the lobby desk crackled to life through my phone's speaker, bringing the clear, icy tone of her voice straight into the pitch-black quiet of the studio:

“You are harassing my mate.” “Our future Luna.” “My mate.” “Temporary technicality.” Dax’s aura flared. Asher grinned brighter, utterly fearless. “Fine, fine. Keep glaring. But admit it, little venom and I would be a better combo. She has trauma, I have knives. She wants justice, I have free time. She has enemies, I have enthusiasm. It’s fate.” I pressed a hand over my face, torn between horror and the ridiculous urge to laugh. “Asher, please stop talking.”

A faint smile curved her lips, but there was nothing warm in it. Ashleigh Dana sat beside Voss, her hair shifting in soft ripples of color I couldn’t read yet, pale gold at the roots, bleeding into streaks of copper and violet. Her attention was fixed on me, a quiet alertness beneath her otherwise casual posture. Of all of them, she felt the least threatening, though I knew she could be the most unpredictable.

That same sense of being on the edge of something irreversible. Thunder rolled again, louder this time. The lights above her buzzed, then dimmed for half a second. She looked up. Something was coming. She could feel it in her bones. She turned, sensing eyes on her. The silver-haired man watched Kael disappear down the corridor, then turned his gaze to Isla. His name was Thorne—a former Ashen sentry, now Kael’s most trusted advisor. His eyes, pale grey and sharp as flint, missed nothing.
