She had dainty gossamer wings and long pointed tips to her ears. Astrid was tall, lithe and blond. Her hair braided into several sections that all came together into one long thick braid that came over her shoulder and hung to her waist. She had the most purest pale blue eyes and her pale complexion was covered in freckles. She looked strong and fierce like a warrior but grinned with a friendly warmth as Aria shook her hand. "I am pleased to meet you." Astrid said, her European sounding accent thick. "As am I." Yolanda agreed with a matching welcoming smile as she also shook Aria's hand.

However, as we continued to walk away, I all of a sudden heard a voice I recognized so very well called behind me, "Alpha Hudson." I halted in my steps, I couldn't control myself as I turned to look at him; the person I spent my four years hating, and her, she was standing beside him, with a her stomach now bulging out, Astrid is pregnant.

They both nodded with very natural smiles. 'Ah.. Everything looks normal here. I have known Astrid for a while now, and she doesn't even talk to men except her husband.. She is a good wife.' Probably some guy gave her a fake number in the bar. "I know what it is. But who are you?" She again asks me anxiously. "I am secretary of the President of the Damison Group. My name is Ethan Stone." I reply to her irritatingly, as she is wasting my time. I need to go home and take a lavender bath with my rubber ducks.

“You raised a true queen. I can’t wait to get to know her better.” Mom, unsuspecting of the tension brewing between the older man and me, claps excitedly. “That’d be great. Astrid is a financial consultant. One of the best.” Jordan's eyes spark with interest. “I look forward to talking shop with you, Astrid.” “That may be a bit much to expect. I’m here to have fun, not talk about work.” A dozen emotions flitter across his chiseled face. “I’ll do the talking.”

I reminded him quietly, though my pulse quickened at the sight of them. One of the figures stepped forward, lowering their hood just enough to reveal the sharp, ageless features of a woman with silver hair and eyes that gleamed like the stars. Her gaze pierced through me as if she could see into the very depths of my soul. “I am Astrid, High Keeper of the Dusk Court,” she said, her voice as cool and sharp as the night air. “You seek our help, but the world has changed, Alpha. Why should we involve ourselves in your war?”

Viktor stands quietly behind me, like a shadow, while Hugo, ever the master of the room, takes his place beside me. “Welcome, Mr. Jayden Brennan,” Hugo says, his voice formal, but there’s an unmistakable edge of condescension in his tone. “Let me introduce the key members of your team.” He gestures to the woman seated directly across from me. “This is Astrid Koenig, our Head of Operations.” Astrid stands to greet me with a nod. She’s tall and striking, with a platinum blonde bob that’s sharp enough to cut glass. “Mr. Brennan,” Astrid says, her tone clipped and efficient. “It’s a pleasure.” But there’s no smile, no warmth. Just business.

A whisper in my gut. Something was off. “You’ve been quiet.” I turned. One of the maids, Mira, stood behind me. A gentle soul. Always polite, always watching. Knew that she was not always pure. She was Lysandra's personal maid and though I wanted to fire her at first, I did not have a reason to do so.

“Oh, yes. My name is Mindy Hopkins. I'm a freelance journalist in London. I managed to get your number from Jeff. He helped you get the number, right? I'm quite good at getting information. I have so many questions to ask you. How did you manage to win the heart of probably the number one biggest—” Astrid hung up. “Who was that?” Nikoleta asked, worried. “Some journalist from London, apparently. She somehow got my number.” Astrid shrugged, acting like it didn't bother her. If she had thought about how Darius's popularity and status would rub off on her, she wouldn't have agreed to any of it. Would she ever be the same Astrid that would enjoy her cold Friday evenings in a park reading her fav
