Her hands were shaking so badly, she almost dropped everything. She read the poem aloud, trying to drown out the noises coming closer. Claire tilted her hand to let the black sand fall to the earth. The sands around her moved, making her look around. Running like streams of water, sand came together, piling upon the sand, gradually rising, crafting the shape of a man. The sand began to fall off, returning to the earth, and the face of a man remained. When the rest of the sand fell off, all that was left was a man. This man was tall with gray eyes, white hair, a fine muscular build, and he was handsome. He stood looking through the misty form of Claire, and she looked back at him.

Aoi just smiled and Miyuki returned it to him, then raised her hands slightly and instantly "freed" both factions from the spell that made them being frozen in time. They were breathing heavily by the intensity of sound, blinking to regain their blurry sensations. “You okay?” Zadicus asked, holding Persephone, hugging her closer, earning strange looks from everyone. “You know she is not your fragile woman anymore, right?” Randall asked, arching a brow.

The guys built fire and earth barriers to protect themselves, but they weren’t strong enough. My ice pierced through the barriers, one going through Kaden’s shirt, pinning him to the ground. I fell to my knees, panting. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Kaden rising, but I had no strength left. Completely drained and exhausted, I couldn’t fight back. The last thing I heard was Kaden shouting my name, his voice back to normal, not like he was possessed, and then everything went dark around me.

The faces in the sand were screaming now, begging us to stay, to give in, to let the Sandman have us. And then I saw him. The Sandman himself. He rose from the desert like a shadow given form. Tall, impossibly tall, with eyes that glowed like dying stars. His voice was the sound of wind over graves. "You broke my world, little glitch." He was looking at Mia. "I don't know what you're talking about," Mia said, but I could hear the fear in her voice. "You shattered the nightmares. Freed the prisoners. Defied my domain." He moved closer, and with each step, the temperature dropped. "I should erase you for that. But you're far too interesting."

He whispered against my ear. A shiver of excitement ran through me which immediately released my hold on him. “Good girl.” He whispered before kissing my neck. I drifted off to sleep before Damian returned. Small waves lapped against the sand as I stood watching them. The sound of wildlife around me filled my ears. The waves swooshed louder and became bigger. Quickly swishing passed my ankles and sent ice cold waves through me. I tried to back away but I was held in place. The sand was swallowing up my feet and holding me in place. I tried to thrash and pull my way out, but I couldn’t move. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes.
