When love turns to ashes
Before the guard could answer, a harsh voice cut through the air.
“Well, look who decided to show her face,” sneered a tall woman in a black veil, stepping forward. It was her aunt her father’s elder sister, Aunt Marlene. And just behind her, Aunt Patricia, the younger sister, both dressed in elegant mourning attire but wearing expressions filled with scorn.
June’s stomach twisted. “Aunt Marlene… Aunt Patricia… please, I just want to pay my last respects”
“Your respects?” Aunt Patricia snapped, her voice loud enough to make a few people nearby glance over. “You wasted everything your father worked for, all for a man who has now abandoned you. You brought nothing but shame to this family.”
