Ace ruffled the kid's blonde hair that caught a sliver of the sun, making it look golden.
"He's trying to be strong for mommy, isn't that right, Rhys?" A beautiful woman with similar golden locks came to the door. She couldn't have been much older than Ace with gentle features and piercing grey eyes.
Ace's lips pressed in a thin line as he stood to his feet again, "He shouldn't have to, Gabby."
"I know, I know," she sighed, gesturing with a gentle smile for Ace and me to come in before softly telling her son, "go finish up your lunch."
